Closes #ISSUE
The ability to update user keybindings in their keymap is required for
#32436. This PR adds the ability to do so, reusing much of the existing
infrastructure for updating settings JSON files.
However, the existing JSON update functionality was intended to work
only with objects, therefore, this PR simply wraps the object updating
code with non-general keymap-specific array updating logic, that only
works for top-level arrays and can only append or update entries in said
top-level arrays. This limited API is reflected in the limited
operations that the new `update_keymap` method on `KeymapFile` can take
as arguments.
Additionally, this PR pulls out the existing JSON updating code into its
own module (where array updating code has been added) and adds a
significant number of tests (hence the high line count in the diff)

Closes#25594
This PR fixes an issue where signing into Copilot required restarting
Zed.
Copilot depends on an OAuth token that comes from either `hosts.json` or
`apps.json`. Initially, both files don't exist. If neither file is
found, we fallback to watching `hosts.json` for updates. However, if the
auth process creates `apps.json`, we won't receive updates from it,
causing the UI to remain outdated.
This PR fixes that by watching the parent `github-copilot` directory
instead, which will always contain one of those files along with an
additional version file.
I have tested this on macOS and Linux Wayland.
Release Notes:
- Fixed an issue where signing into Copilot required restarting Zed.
This PR adds:
- Support for deprecated keymap and settings (In-memory migration)
- Migration prompt only shown in `settings.json` / `keymap.json`.
Release Notes:
- The migration banner will only appear in `settings.json` and
`keymap.json` if you have deprecated settings or keybindings, allowing
you to migrate them to work with the new version on Zed.
- [x] snake case keymap properties
- [x] flatten actions
- [x] keymap migration + notfication
- [x] settings migration + notification
- [x] inline completions -> edit predictions
### future:
- keymap notification doesn't show up on start up, only on keymap save.
this is existing bug in zed, will be addressed in seperate PR.
Release Notes:
- Added a notification for deprecated settings and keymaps, allowing you
to migrate them with a single click. A backup of your existing keymap
and settings will be created in your home directory.
- Modified some keymap actions and settings for consistency.

Required using a global `LazyLock<Mutex<AppNotifications>>` instead of a
context global because settings errors first occur before initialization
of the notifications global.
Release Notes:
- Errors in settings file are now reported in UI on startup.
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs
### issues post merge
- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures
- [x] Mac build issue

This adds an error notification that pops up when the user has an
invalid keymap, similar to what we added for settings in #15905.
Release Notes:
- Added a popup that is displayed when the keymap is invalid
Supersedes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/12090fixes#5180fixes#5055
See original PR for an example of the feature at work.
This PR changes the settings interface to be backwards compatible, and
adds the `ui_font_fallbacks`, `buffer_font_fallbacks`, and
`terminal.font_fallbacks` settings.
Release Notes:
- Added support for font fallbacks via three new settings:
`ui_font_fallbacks`, `buffer_font_fallbacks`, and
`terminal.font_fallbacks`.(#5180, #5055).

This PR replaces the `lazy_static!` usages in the `paths` crate with
`OnceLock` from the standard library.
This allows us to drop the `lazy_static` dependency from this crate.
The paths are now exposed as accessor functions that reference a private
static value.

This PR extracts the definition of the various Zed paths out of `util`
and into a new `paths` crate.
`util` is for generic utils, while these paths are Zed-specific. For
instance, `gpui` depends on `util`, and it shouldn't have knowledge of
these paths, since they are only used by Zed.

This pull request introduces a new `InlineCompletionProvider` trait,
which enables making `Editor` copilot-agnostic and lets us push all the
copilot functionality into the `copilot_ui` module. Long-term, I would
like to merge `copilot` and `copilot_ui`, but right now `project`
depends on `copilot`, which makes this impossible.
The reason for adding this new trait is so that we can experiment with
other inline completion providers and swap them at runtime using config
settings.
Please, note also that we renamed some of the existing copilot actions
to be more agnostic (see release notes below). We still kept the old
actions bound for backwards-compatibility, but we should probably remove
them at some later version.
Also, as a drive-by, we added new methods to the `Global` trait that let
you read or mutate a global directly, e.g.:
```rs
MyGlobal::update(cx, |global, cx| {
});
```
Release Notes:
- Renamed the `copilot::Suggest` action to
`editor::ShowInlineCompletion`
- Renamed the `copilot::NextSuggestion` action to
`editor::NextInlineCompletion`
- Renamed the `copilot::PreviousSuggestion` action to
`editor::PreviousInlineCompletion`
- Renamed the `editor::AcceptPartialCopilotSuggestion` action to
`editor::AcceptPartialInlineCompletion`

Release Notes:
The issue is that when welcome page appears settings.json file is not
created yet. So the idea of this fix is to create the file in case it is
not there yet.
- Fixed the toggles on the welcome screen not working if no settings
file exists yet.

- `base_keymap` setting was not respected, now it is
- without a `~/.config/zed/keymap.json` file, we would fail to load the

This is achieved by moving `available_actions` into `AsyncAppContext` (where
we know no view/window is on the stack) and `keystrokes_for_action` into `LayoutContext`
where we'll fetch the previous frame's ancestors and notify the current view if those
change after we perform a layout.
Multi-element are now generic over any drawable child, which can be converted
into an element.
