Marshall Bowers 4a30b960d4 language_model: Remove dependency on ui (#27448)
This PR removes the dependency on the `ui` crate from the
`language_model` crate.

We were only depending on it to import `IconName`—which now lives in
`icons`—and some re-exported GPUI items.

Agus ZubiagaandAntonio Scandurra 47a89ad243 assistant: Edit files tool (#26506)
Exposes a new "edit files" tool that the model can use to apply
modifications to files in the project. The main model provides
instructions and the tool uses a separate "editor" model (Claude 3.5 by
default) to generate search/replace blocks like Aider does:

````markdown
mathweb/flask/app.py
```python
<<<<<<< SEARCH
from flask import Flask
=======
import math
from flask import Flask
>>>>>>> REPLACE
```
````

The search/replace blocks are parsed and applied as they stream in. If a
block fails to parse, the tool will apply the other edits and report an
error pointing to the part of the input where it occurred. This should
allow the model to fix it.

Marshall Bowers def342e35c Remove dependents of language_models (#25511)
This PR removes the dependents of the `language_models` crate.

The following types have been moved from `language_models` to
`language_model` to facilitate this:

- `PaymentRequiredError`

Antonio Scandurra f517050548 Partially fix assistant onboarding (#25313)
While investigating #24896, I noticed two issues:

1. The default configuration for the `zed.dev` provider was using the
wrong string for Claude 3.5 Sonnet. This meant the provider would always
result as not configured until the user selected it from the model
picker, because we couldn't deserialize that string to a valid
`anthropic::Model` enum variant.
2. When clicking on `Open New Chat`/`Start New Thread` in the provider
configuration, we would select `Claude 3.5 Haiku` by default instead of
Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

Release Notes:

- Fixed some issues that caused AI providers to sometimes be
misconfigured.

Marshall Bowers 7a6b652ebc language_model: Return AuthenticateErrors from LanguageModelProvider::authenticate (#25126)
This PR updates the `LanguageModelProvider::authenticate` method to
return an `AuthenticateError` instead of an `anyhow::Error`.

This allows us to model the "credentials not found" state explicitly as
`AuthenticateError::CredentialsNotFound`, which enables the caller to
check for this state and act accordingly.

Planning to use this in #25123 to silence errors about missing
credentials when authenticating providers in the background.

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments

- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible

voltandMarshall Bowers 799e81ffe5 google_ai: Add Gemini 2.0 Flash support (#22665)
Release Notes:

- Added support for Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash experimental model.

Note:

Weirdly enough the model is slow on small talk responses like 'hi' (in
my tests) but very fast on things that need more tokens like 'write me a
snake game in python'. Likely an API problem.

TESTED ONLY ON WINDOWS! Would test further but don't have Linux
installed and don't have an Mac. Will likely work everywhere.

Why?:

I think Gemini 2.0 Flash is incredibly good model at coding and
following instructions. I think it would be nice to have it in the
editor. I did as minimal changes as possible while adding the model and
streaming validation. I think it's worth merging the commits as they
bring good improvements.

aee01f2c50 assistant: Remove low_speed_timeout (#20681)
This removes the `low_speed_timeout` setting from all providers as a
response to issue #19509.

Reason being that the original `low_speed_timeout` was only as part of
#9913 because users wanted to _get rid of timeouts_. They wanted to bump
the default timeout from 5sec to a lot more.

Then, in the meantime, the meaning of `low_speed_timeout` changed in
#19055 and was changed to a normal `timeout`, which is a different thing
and breaks slower LLMs that don't reply with a complete response in the
configured timeout.

So we figured: let's remove the whole thing and replace it with a
default _connect_ timeout to make sure that we can connect to a server
in 10s, but then give the server as long as it wants to complete its
response.

Closes #19509

Release Notes:

- Removed the `low_speed_timeout` setting from LLM provider settings,
since it was only used to _increase_ the timeout to give LLMs more time,
but since we don't have any other use for it, we simply remove the
setting to give LLMs as long as they need.

Danilo Leal 187356ab9b assistant: Show only configured models in the model picker (#20392)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/16568

This PR introduces some changes to how we display models in the model
selector within the assistant panel. Basically, it comes down to this:

- If you don't have any provider configured, you should see _all_
available models in the picker
- But, once you've configured some, you should _only_ see models from
them in the picker

Visually, nothing's changed much aside from the added "Configured

of, well, configured models only. 😬

Turns out we'd send a request on *every* change to settings.

Now, with this change, we only send a single request.

David Soria ParraandMarshall Bowers 8a96ea25c4 context_servers: Support tools (#19548)
This PR depends on #19547

This PR adds support for tools from context servers. Context servers are
free to expose tools that Zed can pass to models. When called by the
model, Zed forwards the request to context servers. This allows for some
interesting techniques. Context servers can easily expose tools such as
querying local databases, reading or writing local files, reading
resources over authenticated APIs (e.g. kubernetes, asana, etc).

This is currently experimental.

Things to discuss
* I want to still add a confirm dialog asking people if a server is
allows to use the tool. Should do this or just use the tool and assume
trustworthyness of context servers?
* Can we add tool use behind a local setting flag?

Peter Tripp 291af664e1 Switch to Anthropic -latest tags (#19615)
- Closes: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/19609

Switches us to using `-latest` tags with Anthropic models instead of
pinning to a specific date version.
See: [Anthropic Model
Docs](https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/about-claude/models)

This is a no-op for:
- Claude 3 Opus (`claude-3-opus-20240229`)
- Claude 3 Sonnet (`claude-3-sonnet-20240229`)
- Claude 3 Haiku (`claude-3-haiku-20240307`)

For Claude 3.5 Sonnet this will update us from
`claude-3-5-sonnet-20240620` to `claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022`. We will
also pickup any subsequent model updates automatically when Anthropic
updates the `latest` tag.

This matches the behavior for OpenAI where use `gpt-4o` as the
model_name and not `gpt-4o-2024-08-06`.

Marshall Bowers 2bcf9fc490 Add client::zed_urls module for constructing zed.dev URLs (#19391)
This PR adds a new `zed_urls` module to the `client` crate.

This module contains functions for constructing URLs to Zed properties,
such as zed.dev.

The URLs produced by this module will respect the server URL set via
settings or the `ZED_SERVER_URL` environment variable. This allows them
to correctly reflect the current environment (such as when testing Zed
against a local collab/zed.dev).
