Alex OzerandKirill Bulatov 0ec15d6b02 Fix soft_wrap setting not applying to buffers starting with a different language (#25880)
Closes #22999
# Problem

Currently, the default soft wrap mode of an editor is determined by
reading the language-specific settings of the language _at offset zero_
in the editor's (multi)buffer. While this provides a way to pick a
single soft wrap mode for a multi-language multibuffer, it's a bad
choice for a single-buffer multibuffer that begins with a different
embedded language. For example, Markdown with frontmatter:

```markdown
---
my_front_matter
---
# Hello World
```

Setting this in config:

```json
  "languages": {
    "Markdown": { "soft_wrap": "bounded" }
  },
```

Will not soft wrap the Markdown file as the language at offset zero is
YAML.

# Solution

Instead of using the language at offset zero, use the language of the
first buffer in the multibuffer (the buffer at offset zero). This gives
better behavior for single-buffer editors, and a similar default for
multi-language multibuffers as before.

# Testing

All existing `editor` crate tests pass, but I would appreciate any
guidance for where best to add additional testing.

Release Notes:

- Fixed soft_wrap setting not applying to buffers starting with a
different language

5brian 52f73e0c2d vim: Refactor and fix multiline operations (#25055)
Changes:
- [x] Cursor at the start during yank operations on objects (`yip`,
`yab` etc).
- [x] Refactors this: Trim all leading and trailing whitespace from
inner multiline bracket selection.
  - This leaves a nicely indented line when doing `ci{` `vi{d` etc
  - [x] Checks for empty selection
  - [x] Removed moving cursor to the start in visual bracket operations

This cleans up the previous implementation by providing a simpler check
in `surrounding_markers`, instead of calling a new function in
`expand_object`. No functionality was changed there except for handling
the empty selection and removing some cursor adjustments that should not
have been there after further testing.

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible

AidanVandConrad Irwin f702575255 Add support for resizing panes using vim motions (#21038)
Closes #8628

Release Notes:

- Added support for resizing the current pane using vim keybinds with
the intention to follow the functionality of vim
  - "ctrl-w +" to make a pane taller
  - "ctrl-w -" to make the pane shorter
  - "ctrl-w >" to make a pane wider
  - "ctrl-w <" to make the pane narrower
- Changed vim pre_count and post_count to globals to allow for other
crates to use the vim count. In this case, it allows for resizing by
more than one unit. For example, "10 ctrl-w -" will decrease the height
of the pane 10 times more than "ctrl-w -"
- This pr does **not** add keybinds for making all panes in an axis
equal size and does **not** add support for resizing docks. This is
mentioned because these could be implied by the original issue

Release Notes:

- Added `regex` option to `vim::Search` command to allow disabling regex
search by default in the keymap. Example usage:
  ```yaml
    "context": "VimControl && !menu",
    "bindings": {
    }
  }
Thorsten Ball 36b9e40085 vim: Reset search options whenever / is used (#19058)
This is a bit of a personal thing, but it's been bugging me for a while
now that the search options are sticky whenever I use `/` in Vim mode.
This change makes it so that the options are reset with each new `/`.
That means you can, for example, use `v` to create a visual selection,
then hit `*` to search for that (which activates a bunch of search
options), but then continue with `/` to get a normal search.
Release Notes:
- Changed `/` in Vim mode to always reset the search options in the
search bar back to regex-only. That means using `*` (in normal or visual
mode) still works with its options, but the next `/` will reset the
search options. That makes it much closer to how `/` behaves in Vim.
Ömer Sinan Ağacan 71f4ca67c2 Use WHOLE_WORD search option in vim mode's whole-word search (#18725)
Instead of wrapping the search term with `\<...\>`, enable the
`WHOLE_WORD` search option.
The advantage of the search option is that it can be toggled with one
click/key press (alt+w by default), and it doesn't require regex mode.
Release Notes:
- Vim mode's whole word search now uses the search bar's "Match whole
words" option, instead of wrapping the search term with `\<...\>`. This
allows easier toggling of whole-word search, and it also works without
enabling the regex mode.
