Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/4461
This PR improves the coding experience by hiding the mouse while the
user is typing so it does not accidentally get in their way, making it
challenging to ready characters in the editor.
Release Notes:
- The following PR hides the cursor when the user is typing by adding a
new cursor style called `None`.
- Assuming the user does not move the mouse, it will stay hidden until
it is moved again.

There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view

- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with

- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts

This PR updates the scrollbar diagnostic setting to provide fine-grained
control over which indicators to show, based on severity level. This
allows the user to hide lower-severity diagnostics that can otherwise
clutter the scrollbar (for example, unused or disabled code).
The options are set such that the existing boolean setting has the same
effect: when `true` all diagnostics are shown, and when `false` no
diagnostics are shown.
Closes#22296.
Release Notes:
- Added fine-grained control of scrollbar diagnostic indicators.
This changes #22093 by making the change only have an effect for the
supported provider: Zeta.
Made the change because the UX is still experimental and I don't want to
break existing workflows for Copilot/Supermaven users.
Even Zeta users can opt-out of it by setting
`"show_inline_completions_in_menu": false` in their settings, in case
they want the old show-inline-completion-or-show-lsp-completion behavior
back.

Closes#4427
Release Notes:
- Added a horizontal scrollbar to the editor panel
- Added `axis` option to `scrollbar` in the Zed configuration, which can
forcefully disable either the horizontal or vertical scrollbar
- Added `horizontal_scroll_margin` equivalent to
`vertical_scroll_margin` in the Zed configuration
Rough Edges:
This feature seems mostly stable from my testing. I've been using a
development build for about a week with no issues. Any feedback would be
appreciated. There are a few things to note as well:
1. Scrolling to the lower right occasionally causes scrollbar clipping
on my end, but it isn't consistent and it isn't major. Some more testing
would definitely be a good idea. [FIXED]
2. Documentation may need to be modified
3. I added an `AxisPair` type to the `editor` crate to manage values
that have a horizontal and vertical variant. I'm not sure if that's the
optimal way to do it, but I didn't see a good alternative. The `Point`
type would technically work, but it may cause confusion.

Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/6843
I don't see where is the logic to remove old document highlight when new
one applies,
ideally, old highlight should be cleared as soon as possible when cursor
moves if the new position does not
sits in old highlight ranges to avoid linger highlights described in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/13682#issuecomment-2498368680.
So current solution is still not ideal, because only when lsp responses
highlight ranges (even is a empty set) can we clear the old one.
Release Notes:
- Added a setting `lsp_highlight_debounce` to configure delay for
querying highlights from language server.

Release Notes:
- Added `show_completions_on_input` and `show_completion_documentation`
per-language settings. These settings were available before, but were
not configurable per-language.
The goal of #7115 appears to be to limit the disruptiveness of
completion documentation load causing the completion selector to move
around. The approach was to debounce load of documentation via a setting
`completion_documentation_secondary_query_debounce`. This particularly
had a nonideal interaction with #21286, where now this debounce interval
was used between the documentation fetches of every individual
completion item.
I think a better solution is to continue making space for documentation
to be shown as soon as any documentation is shown. #21704 implemented
part of this, but it did not persist across followup completions.
Release Notes:
- Fixed completion list moving around on load of documentation. The
previous approach to mitigating this was to rate-limit the fetch of
docs, configured by a
`completion_documentation_secondary_query_debounce` setting, which is
now deprecated.

Stop showing the pop-up that gets an issue open every now and then.
Release Notes:
- Stopped showing signature help after completions by default
Currently terminal.cursor_shape uses `underline` and `cursor_shape` uses
`underscore`.
This standardizes them so they use the same settings value.
I think `underline` is the more common term and it matches the
terminology used by VSCode, Alacritty, iTerm, etc.
Note the protobuf enum `CursorShape::CursorUnderscore` remains
unchanged.

Release Notes:

Before this change, `use_on_type_format` would only have an effect when
defined on a global level in our settings.
But our default.json settings would also document that it's used in
language settings, i.e.:
```json
{
"languages": {
"C": {
"use_on_type_format": false
},
"C++": {
"use_on_type_format": false
}
}
}
```
But this did **not** work.
With the change, it now works globally and per-language.
Release Notes:
- Fixed `use_on_type_format` setting not working when defined inside
`"languages"` in the settings. This change will now change the default
behavior for C, C++, and Markdown, by turning language server's
`OnTypeFormatting` completions off by default.

How it looks:
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/2101250/f564111c-1019-4442-b8a6-de338e12b12e
This PR adds cursor markers to the scrollbar. They work similar to
VSCode:
1. A cursor marker takes the whole scrollbar width.
2. It's always 2px high.
3. It uses the player's `cursor` color, so it may be helpful in the
collaboration mode.
There's a setting to switch cursor markers on/off:
```json
{
"scrollbar": {
"cursors": true
}
}
```
Implementation details:
- Unlike other markers, cursor markers are displayed synchronously.
Otherwise they don't feel smooth and sometimes freez on prolonged
up/down navigation.
- Cursor markers are automatically switched off when it's more than 100
of them.
- The minimum (non-cursor) marker height is now 5px. It allows the user
to see other markers under the cursor marker.
- The way the minimum height is imposed on markers has changed a bit to
keep consistency between markers of different types.
- Selected symbol markers use less vibrant color (`info` faded out a
little).
Release Notes:
- Added displaying of cursor markers in the scrollbar. They can be
switched on/off by the `scrollbar.cursors` setting.
Zed displays scrollbar markers of three types: git diffs, background
highlights and diagnostics. At the moment, the "background highlights"
markers are displayed for all the supported highlights:
- Occurences of the symbol under cursor.
- Search results.
- Scope boundaries (only works when a symbol is selected).
- Active hover popover position.
They all use the same color, which leads to confusing results. For
instance, in the following case I expect to see markers for the
`new_anchor` occurences in lines 43 and 47. But besides them, there're
also scope-markers for `ScrollAnchor` initialization block in lines 46
and 49, which makes me think that there're four places where
`new_anchor` appears.

Existing settings `selection` and `symbol_selection` in the `scrollbar`
section [don't work as
expected](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/10080#discussion_r1552325493),
which increases confusion.
This PR only leaves two types of bg-highlight-markers and provides
dedicated settings for them:
- Occurences of the symbol under cursor. Setting: `selected_symbol`,
default is `true`.
- Search results. Setting: `search_results`, default is `true`.
The `selection` and `symbol_selection` settings are not used anymore.
Release Notes:
- Breaking changes. Settings `selection` and `symbol_selection` in the
`scrollbar` section renamed to `search_results` and `selected_symbol`
respectively. Fixed the effect of these settings on which markers are
displayed on the scrollbar.

can be included in the release notes.

Some people (like myself) use touchpads for development and I find Zed's
default scroll sensitivity to be slower than I like. This change adds a
scroll sensitivity multiplier that allows users to customize the speed
of their scrolling.
Release Notes:
- Added a setting under "scroll_sensitivity" that allows user to control
the scroll sensitivity. This value acts as a multiplier for the
horizontal and vertical scroll speed.
This PR adds the ability for extensions to provide certain language
settings via the language `config.toml`.
These settings are then merged in with the rest of the settings when the
language is loaded from the extension.
The language settings that are available are:
- `tab_size`
- `hard_tabs`
- `soft_wrap`
Additionally, for bundled languages we moved these settings out of the
`settings/default.json` and into their respective `config.toml`s .
For languages currently provided by extensions, we are leaving the
values in the `settings/default.json` temporarily until all released
versions of Zed are able to load these settings from the extension.
---
Along the way we ended up refactoring the `Settings::load` method
slightly, introducing a new `SettingsSources` struct to better convey
where the settings are being loaded from.
This makes it easier to load settings from specific locations/sets of
locations in an explicit way.

this PR allows users to use `cmd` instead of `alt` as the

closes#4339
---------

Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/5275
Double click with `alt` modifier pressed will do the regular word
selection.
Adds a setting to disable this behavior and instead select a word, as in
the regular buffer.
```
// What to do when multibuffer is double clicked in some of its excerpts
// (parts of singleton buffers).
// May take 2 values:
// 1. Behave as a regular buffer and select the whole word.
// "double_click_in_multibuffer": "select"
// 2. Open the excerpt clicked as a new buffer in the new tab (default).
// "double_click_in_multibuffer": "open",
// For the case of "open", regular selection behavior can be achieved by holding `alt` when double clicking.
"double_click_in_multibuffer": "open",
```
Release Notes:
- Made multibuffer to open excerpts in new tabs on double click by
default (changing settings or keeping alt restores the word selection
behavior). ([5275](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/5275))
Adds settings for hiding breadcrumbs and quick action bar from
the editor toolbar. If both elements are hidden, the toolbar disappears
completely.
Example:
```json
"toolbar": {
"breadcrumbs": true,
"quick_actions": false
}
```
- It intentionally doesn't hide breadcrumbs in other views (for
instance, in the search result window) because their usage there differ
from the main editor.
- The editor controls how breadcrumbs are displayed in the toolbar, so
implementation differs a bit for breadcrumbs and quick actions bar.
Release Notes:

references looks like this in `buffer.rs` (note the red lines in the
scrollbar):

As you can see, the errors, warnings, ... are displayed in the scroll
bar, which helps to identify possible problems with the current file.

-(internal) added a new `redactions.scm` query to our language support,
allowing different config file formats to indicate where environment
