Ivan Trubach aec3c2fbb7 workspace: Move panes to span the entire border in Vim mode (#39123)
Currently, <kbd>⌃w</kbd> + <kbd>HJKL</kbd> keystrokes swap active pane
with another pane in that direction. Also, if there is no pane to swap
with, nothing happens.

This does not match the expected Vim behavior: moving the split to span
the entire border.

See
https://github.com/vim/vim/blob/ca6a260ef1a4b4ae94bc71c17cbabf8f12bf0f8c/runtime/doc/windows.txt#L527-L549

This change adds `MovePane{Up,Down,Left,Right}` actions that do exactly
that and updates default Vim keymap.

Kirill Bulatov b233df8343 Revert "Remote LSP logs (#36709)" (#37051)
This reverts commit e2bf8e5d9c.

See
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/37050#issuecomment-3230017137
for the context: musl builds started to fail and the amount of `cfg!`s
to fix this is too large.

Instead, the lsp_log.rs has to be split and repurposed better for the
remote headless server.

tidely 7bdc99abc1 Fix clippy::redundant_clone lint violations (#36558)
This removes around 900 unnecessary clones, ranging from cloning a few
ints all the way to large data structures and images.

A lot of these were fixed using `cargo clippy --fix --workspace
--all-targets`, however it often breaks other lints and needs to be run
again. This was then followed up with some manual fixing.

I understand this is a large diff, but all the changes are pretty
trivial. Rust is doing some heavy lifting here for us. Once I get it up
to speed with main, I'd appreciate this getting merged rather sooner
than later.

326fe05b33 Resizable columns (#34794)
This PR adds resizable columns to the keymap editor and the ability to
double-click on a resizable column to set a column back to its default
size.

The table uses a column's width to calculate what position it should be
laid out at. So `column[i]` x position is calculated by the summation of
`column[..i]`. When resizing `column[i]`, `column[i+1]`’s size is
adjusted to keep all columns’ relative positions the same. If
`column[i+1]` is at its minimum size, we keep seeking to the right to
find a column with space left to take.

An improvement to resizing behavior and double-clicking could be made by
checking both column ranges `0..i-1` and `i+1..COLS`, since only one
range of columns is checked for resize capacity.

Finn Evers 2fe1293fba Improve cursor style behavior for some draggable elements (#31965)
Follow-up to #24797

This PR ensures some cursor styles do not change for draggable elements
during dragging. The linked PR covered this on the higher level for
draggable divs. However, e.g. the pane divider inbetween two editors is
not a draggable div and thus still has the issue that the cursor style
changes during dragging. This PR fixes this issue by setting the hitbox
to `None` in cases where the element is currently being dragged, which
ensures the cursor style is applied to the cursor no matter what during
dragging.

Namely, this change fixes this for
- non-div pane dividers
- minimap slider and the
- editor scrollbars

and implements it for the UI scrollbars (Notably, UI scrollbars do
already have `cursor_default` on their parent container but would not
keep this during dragging. I opted out on removing this from the parent
containers until #30194 or a similar PR is merged).

Finn Evers cbed580db0 workspace: Ensure pane handle hitbox blocks mouse events (#31719)
Follow-up to #31712

Pane handle hitboxes were opaque prior to the linked PR. This was the
case because pane handles have an intentionally larger hitbox than the
pane dividers size to allow for easier dragging. The cursor style is
also updated for that hitbox to indicate that resizing is possible:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/908678403871e0ef18bbe20f78a84654dfdd431d/crates/workspace/src/pane_group.rs#L1297-L1301

Not blocking the mouse events here causes mouse events to bleed through
this hitbox whilst actually any clicks will only cause a pane resize to
happen. Hence, this hitbox should continue to block mouse events to
avoid any confusion when resizing panes.

I considered using `HitboxBehavior::BlockMouseExceptScroll` here,
however, due to the reasons mentioned above, I decided against it. The
cursor will not indicate that scrolling should be possible. Since all
other mouse events on underlying elements (like hovers) are blocked, it
felt more reasonable to just go with `HitboxBehavior::BlockMouse`.

Michael Sloan 9086784038 gpui: Support hitbox blocking mouse interaction except scrolling (#31712)
tl;dr: This adds `.block_mouse_except_scroll()` which should typically
be used instead of `.occlude()` for cases when the mouse shouldn't
interact with elements drawn below an element. The rationale for
treating scroll events differently:

* Mouse move / click / styles / tooltips are for elements the user is
interacting with directly.
* Mouse scroll events are about finding the current outer scroll
container.

Most use of `occlude` should probably be switched to this, but I figured
I'd derisk this change by minimizing behavior changes to just the 3 uses
of `block_mouse_except_scroll`.

GPUI changes:

* Added `InteractiveElement::block_mouse_except_scroll()`, and removes
`stop_mouse_events_except_scroll()`

* Added `Hitbox::should_handle_scroll()` to be used when handling scroll
wheel events.

* `Window::insert_hitbox` now takes `HitboxBehavior` instead of
`occlude: bool`.

    - `false` for that bool is now `HitboxBehavior::Normal`.

    - `true` for that bool is now `HitboxBehavior::BlockMouse`.

    - The new mode is `HitboxBehavior::BlockMouseExceptScroll`.

* Removes `Default` impl for `HitboxId` since applications should not
manually create `HitboxId(0)`.

Kirill Bulatov 16366cf9f2 Use anyhow more idiomatically (#31052)
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/30972 brought up another
case where our context is not enough to track the actual source of the
issue: we get a general top-level error without inner error.

The reason for this was `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("failed to read HEAD
SHA"))?; ` on the top level.

The PR finally reworks the way we use anyhow to reduce such issues (or
at least make it simpler to bubble them up later in a fix).
On top of that, uses a few more anyhow methods for better readability.

* `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("..."))`, `map_err` and other similar error
conversion/option reporting cases are replaced with `context` and
`with_context` calls
* in addition to that, various `anyhow!("failed to do ...")` are
stripped with `.context("Doing ...")` messages instead to remove the
parasitic `failed to` text
* `anyhow::ensure!` is used instead of `if ... { return Err(...); }`
calls
* `anyhow::bail!` is used instead of `return Err(anyhow!(...));`

Ron Harel 1fcd2647ed workspace: Fix inactive pane dimming (#29473)
Closes #27173

Problem:

Active panes nested within axes were incorrectly receiving opacity
overlays, while inactive panes in nested structures would get multiple
overlays applied, making them appear darker than intended.

Solution:

I fixed this by distinguishing between leaf panes and axes in the
rendering pipeline, applying overlays only to elements that are both
leaf panes and not active, ensuring consistent visual treatment
regardless of their position in the hierarchy.

Release Notes:

- Fixed an issue where `inactive_opacity` settings would be applied to
panes multiple times and even to the active pane when nested within
another pane.

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`

- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running

![it_splits](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/40de03c9-2173-4441-ba96-8e91537956e0)

Applies the same splitting mechanism, as Zed's central pane has, to the
terminal panel.
Similar navigation, splitting and (de)serialization capabilities are
supported.

Notable caveats:
* zooming keeps the terminal splits' ratio, rather expanding the
terminal pane
* on macOs, central panel is split with `cmd-k up/down/etc.` but `cmd-k`
is a "standard" terminal clearing keybinding on macOS, so terminal panel
splitting is done via `ctrl-k up/down/etc.`
* task terminals are "split" into regular terminals, and also not
persisted (same as currently in the terminal)

Seems ok for the initial version, we can revisit and polish things
later.

- This pr does **not** add keybinds for making all panes in an axis

> note: don't know much rust, so I wouldn't be surprised if stuff can be
done much better, happy to update things after the review.
Also, wasn't sure about introducing the new object in the settings, but
it felt better than adding two more keys to the root, let me know what
you think and if there's a better way to do this. Also happy to get
feedback on the text itself, as I didn't spend much thinking how to
document this.

Piotr Osiewicz bd6d385817 gpui: Pass Style by value to request_layout (#11597)
A minor thing I've spotted and decided to fix on the spot.
It was being cloned twice within the body of that function (one of which
was redundant even without this PR); now in most cases we go down from 2
clones to 0.

5df1481297 Introduce a new markdown crate (#11556)
This pull request introduces a new `markdown` crate which is capable of
parsing and rendering a Markdown source. One of the key additions is
that it enables text selection within a `Markdown` view. Eventually,
this will replace `RichText` but for now the goal is to use it in the
assistant revamped assistant in the spirit of making progress.

src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/482957/b56c777b-e57c-42f9-95c1-3ada22f63a69">

Note that this pull request doesn't yet use the new markdown renderer in
`assistant2`. This is because we need to modify the assistant before
slotting in the new renderer and I wanted to merge this independently of
those changes.

Soroush MirzaeiandMikayla da6a6ec36b Add col/row resize cursor styles (#11406)
This PR fixes a small issue I noticed with resize cursors. The
column/row resize cursors were missing and in a few places we were using
`ew-resize` and `ns-resize` even though the documentation mentions
`col-resize` and `row-resize`.

Finally updated the panes in the workspace to use the new column/row
resize cursors.

Before:

After:

Release Notes:

- Added column/row resize cursor styles to GPUI
- Fixed the existing references that were incorrectly using `ew-resize`
for column resize and `ns-resize` for row resize
- Updated panes to use column/row resize cursors instead on `ew-resize`
and `ns-resize`

Nathan SoboandAntonio Scandurra 39fb1d567d Incorporate ElementId as part of the Element::id trait method and expose GlobalId (#11101)
We're planning to associate "selection sources" with global element ids
to allow arbitrary UI text to be selected in GPUI. Previously, global
ids were not exposed outside the framework and we entangled management
of the element id stack with element state access. This was more
acceptable when element state was the only place we used global element
ids, but now that we're planning to use them more places, it makes sense
to deal with element identity as a first-class part of the element
system. We now ensure that the stack of element ids which forms the
current global element id is correctly managed in every phase of element
layout and paint and make the global id available to each element
method. In a subsequent PR, we'll use the global element id as part of
implementing arbitrary selection for UI text.

Antonio ScandurraandNathan Sobo 6a7761e620 Merge ElementContext into WindowContext (#10979)
The new `ElementContext` was originally introduced to ensure the element
APIs could only be used inside of elements. Unfortunately, there were
many places where some of those APIs needed to be used, so
`WindowContext::with_element_context` was introduced, which defeated the
original safety purposes of having a specific context for elements.

This pull request merges `ElementContext` into `WindowContext` and adds
(debug) runtime checks to APIs that can only be used during certain
phases of element drawing.

Antonio ScandurraandNathan bcbf2f2fd3 Introduce autoscroll support for elements (#10889)
This pull request introduces the new
`ElementContext::request_autoscroll(bounds)` and
`ElementContext::take_autoscroll()` methods in GPUI. These new APIs
enable container elements such as `List` to change their scroll position
if one of their children requested an autoscroll. We plan to use this in
the revamped assistant.

As a drive-by, we also:

- Renamed `Element::before_layout` to `Element::request_layout`
- Renamed `Element::after_layout` to `Element::prepaint`
- Introduced a new `List::splice_focusable` method to splice focusable
elements into the list, which enables rendering offscreen elements that
are focused.

Andrew LyginandMarshall Bowers a0f236af5d themes: Add pane_group.border color (#9986)
This PR adds the `pane_group.border` theme attribute that defines the
color of the borders between pane groups.

- Defaults to the `border` color, so nothing changes in the existing
themes.
- VSCode theme converter takes it from the `editorGroup.border`.

The borders marked by red are affected:
