Lukas Wirth 43a9368dff clock: Cleanup ReplicaId, Lamport and Global (#40600)
- Notable change is the use of a newtype for `ReplicaId`
- Fixes `WorktreeStore::create_remote_worktree` creating a remote
worktree with the local replica id, though this is not currently used
- Fixes observing the `Agent` (that is following the agent) causing
global clocks to allocate 65535 elements
- Shrinks the size of `Global` a bit. In a local or non-collab remote
session it won't ever allocate still.

Marshall Bowers 4469b14512 collab_ui: Show channel list while reconnecting (#37107)
This PR makes it so the channel list will still be shown while
reconnecting to Collab instead of showing the signed-out state.

In order to model the transitional states that occur while reconnecting,
we needed to introduce a new `Status::Reauthenticated` state that we go
through when signing in as part of a reconnect. This is because we
cannot tell from `Status::Authenticated` alone if we're authenticating
for the first time or reauthenticating.

Marshall BowersandRichard Feldman 315a92091b Ensure Edit Prediction provider is properly assigned on sign-in (#35885)
This PR fixes an issue where Edit Predictions would not be available in
buffers that were opened when the workspace loaded.

The issue was that there was a race condition between fetching/setting
the authenticated user state and when we assigned the Edit Prediction
provider to buffers that were already opened.

We now wait for the event that we emit when we have successfully loaded
the user in order to assign the Edit Prediction provider, as we'll know
the user has been loaded into the `UserStore` by that point.

Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/35883

Anthony EidandRemco Smits c6947ee4f0 onboarding ui: Add theme preview tiles and button functionality to basic page (#35413)
This PR polishes and adds functionality to the onboarding UI with a
focus on the basic page. It added theme preview tiles, got the Vim,
telemetry, crash reporting, and sign-in button working.

The theme preview component was moved to the UI crate and it now can
have a click handler on it.

Finally, this commit also changed `client::User.github_login` and
`client::UserStore.by_github_login` to use `SharedStrings` instead of
`Strings`. This change was made because user.github_login was cloned in
several areas including the UI, and was cast to a shared string in some
cases too.

Kirill Bulatov 16366cf9f2 Use anyhow more idiomatically (#31052)
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/30972 brought up another
case where our context is not enough to track the actual source of the
issue: we get a general top-level error without inner error.

The reason for this was `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("failed to read HEAD
SHA"))?; ` on the top level.

The PR finally reworks the way we use anyhow to reduce such issues (or
at least make it simpler to bubble them up later in a fix).
On top of that, uses a few more anyhow methods for better readability.

* `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("..."))`, `map_err` and other similar error
conversion/option reporting cases are replaced with `context` and
`with_context` calls
* in addition to that, various `anyhow!("failed to do ...")` are
stripped with `.context("Doing ...")` messages instead to remove the
parasitic `failed to` text
* `anyhow::ensure!` is used instead of `if ... { return Err(...); }`
calls
* `anyhow::bail!` is used instead of `return Err(anyhow!(...));`

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

919803a4f4 Require accepting ToS when enabling zeta (#23255)
Note: Design hasn't been reviewed yet, but the logic is done

When the user switches the inline completion provider to `zed`, we'll
show a modal prompting them to accept terms if they haven't done so:

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/3fc6d368-c00a-4dcb-9484-fbbbb5eb859e

If they dismiss the modal, they'll be able to get to it again from the
inline completion button:

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/cf842778-5538-4e06-9ed8-21579981cc47

This also stops zeta sending requests that will fail immediately when
ToS are not accepted.

Kirill Bulatov 0199eca289 Allow filling co-authors in the git panel's commit input (#23329)
https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/78db908e-cfe5-4803-b0dc-4f33bc457840

* starts to extract usernames out of `users/` GitHub API responses, and
pass those along with e-mails in the collab sessions as part of the
`User` data

* adjusts various prefill and seed test methods so that the new data can
be retrieved from GitHub properly

* if there's an active call, where guests have write permissions and
e-mails, allow to trigger `FillCoAuthors` action in the context of the
git panel, that will fill in `co-authored-by:` lines, using e-mail and
names (or GitHub handle names if name is absent)

* the action tries to not duplicate such entries, if any are present
already, and adds those below the rest of the commit input's text

Concerns:

* users with write permissions and no e-mails will be silently omitted
— adding odd entries that try to indicate this or raising pop-ups is
very intrusive (maybe, we can add `#`-prefixed comments?), logging seems
pointless

* it's not clear whether the data prefill will run properly on the
existing users — seems tolerable now, as it seems that we get e-mails
properly already, so we'll see GitHub handles instead of names in the
worst case. This can be prefilled better later.

* e-mails and names for a particular project may be not what the user
wants.
E.g. my `.gitconfig` has
```
[user]
    email = mail4score@gmail.com
# .....snip
[includeif "gitdir:**/work/zed/**/.git"]
    path = ~/.gitconfig.work
```

and that one has

```
[user]
    email = kirill@zed.dev
```

while my GitHub profile is configured so, that `mail4score@gmail.com` is
the public, commit e-mail.

So, when I'm a participant in a Zed session, wrong e-mail will be
picked.
The problem is, it's impossible for a host to get remote's collaborator
git metadata for a particular project, as that might not even exist on
disk for the client.

Seems that we might want to add some "project git URL <-> user name and
email" mapping in the settings(?).
The design of this is not very clear, so the PR concentrates on the
basics for now.

When https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/23308 lands, most of the
issues can be solved by collaborators manually, before committing.

Bennet Bo FennerandThorsten bdb54decdc ssh remoting: Show the host's GitHub name in the titlebar when sharing an SSH project (#19844)
The name (GitHub name) of the host was not displayed when sharing an ssh
project.

Previously we assumed that the a collaborator is a host if the
`replica_id` of the collaborator was `0`,
but for ssh project the `replica_id` is actually `1`.
