In the past, Zed used a single switch called `autoclose` to control both
`autoclose` and `auto_surround` functionalities:
+ `autoclose`: when input '(', append ')' automatically.
+ `auto_surround`: when select text and input '(', surround text with
'(' and ')' automatically.
This PR separates `auto_surround` from `autoclose` to support `<`.
Previously, if `autoclose` of `<` was set to `false`, `auto_surround`
couldn't be used. However, setting `autoclose` to `true` would affect
the default behavior of simple expression. For example, `a < b` would
become `a <> b`.
For more information, see #13187.
Fix#12898.
Release Notes:
- Added support for `auto_surround`
([#12898](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/12898)).
Note:
- We have disabled all tests that rely on Postgres in the Linux CI. We
only really need to test these once, and as macOS is our team's primary
platform, we'll only enable them on macOS for local reproduction.
- We have disabled all tests that rely on the font metrics. We
standardized on Zed Mono in many fonts, but our CoreText Text System and
Cosmic Text System proved to be very different in effect. We should
revisit if we decide to standardize our text system across platforms
(e.g. using Harfbuzz everywhere)
- Extended the condition timeout significantly. Our CI machines are slow
enough that this is causing spurious errors in random tests.

This fixes a panic in the `SelectionsCollection::first_anchor` when
there was a pending mouse selection and no other selections. Until
recently, this method was only used in vim mode, but as of
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/commit/53b0720d546b6541fbf236d2f9d2dadbce6f126e,
it's also used in the normal `move_up` and `move_down` actions.
So until recently, the panic that this fixes could only happen in vim
mode.
Release Notes:
- Fixed a crash that could happen when using certain cursor-motion
bindings with a pending mouse selection.
On most platforms, things were working correctly, but had the wrong
type. On X11, there were some problems with window and display size
calculations.
Release Notes:
- Fixed issues with window positioning on X11

Indent guides can be configured per language, meaning that in a multi
buffer we can get excerpts where indent guides should be
disabled/enabled/styled differently than other excerpts.
Imagine the following scenario, i have indent guides disabled in my
settings, but want to enable them for JS and Python. I also want to use
a different line width for python files. Something like this is now
supported:
<img width="445" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/53836821/0c91411c-145c-4210-a883-4c469d5cb828">
And the relevant settings for the example above:
```json
"indent_guides": {
"enabled": false
},
"languages": {
"JavaScript": {
"indent_guides": {
"enabled": true
}
},
"Python": {
"indent_guides": {
"enabled": true,
"line_width": 5
}
}
}
```
Release Notes:
- Respect language specific settings when showing indent guides in a
multibuffer
- Fixes an issue where indent guide specific settings were not
recognized when specified in local settings
Release Notes:
- Improved expand excerpt indicators to allow unidirectional expansion.
Also added the `editor::ExpandExcerptsUp` and
`editor::ExpandExcerptsDown` actions, which can both take a `lines`
parameter. Also added a `expand_excerpt_lines` setting which controls
the default number of lines that the indicators and actions use.

This pull request introduces the ability to add flaps, custom foldable
regions whose first foldable line can be associated with:
- A toggle in the gutter
- A trailer showed at the end of the line, before the inline blame
information
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/482957/c53a9148-f31a-4743-af64-18afa73c404c
To achieve this, we changed `FoldMap::fold` to accept a piece of text to
display when the range is folded. We use this capability in flaps to
avoid displaying the ellipsis character.
We want to use this new API in the assistant to fold context while still
giving visual cues as to what that context is.

Now, regardless of how the Zed window is closed, Zed can remember the
window's restore size.
- [x] Windows implementation
- [x] macOS implementation
- [x] Linux implementation (partial)
- [x] update SQL data base (mark column `fullscreen` as deprecated)
The current implementation on Linux is basic, and I'm not sure if it's
correct.
The variable `fullscreen` in SQL can be removed, but I'm unsure how to
do it.
edit: mark `fullscreen` as deprecated
### Case 1
When the window is closed as maximized, reopening it will open in the
maximized state, and returning from maximized state will restore the
position and size it had when it was maximized.
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/14981363/7207752e-878a-4d43-93a7-41ad1fdb3a06
### Case 2
When the window is closed as fullscreen, reopening it will open in
fullscreen mode, and toggling fullscreen will restore the position and
size it had when it entered fullscreen (note that the fullscreen
application was not recorded in the video, showing a black screen, but
it had actually entered fullscreen mode).

### What's more
- As English is not my native language, some variable and struct names
may need to be modified to match their actual meaning.
- I am not familiar with the APIs related to macOS and Linux, so
implementation for these two platforms has not been done for now.
- Any suggestions and ideas are welcome.

- Fixed#10888
This patch addresses behavior of
`Editor::move_to_{beginning|end}_of_line`. It adds a setting,
`stop_at_soft_wraps` when defining a keymap for the
`editor::MoveToBeginningOfLine` and `editor::MoveToEndOfLine` actions.
When `true`, it causes movement to the either end of the line (via, for
example Home or End), to go to the logical end, as opposed to the
nearest soft wrap point in the respective direction.

Added two new actions with the default keybindings
```
"cmd-'": "editor::ToggleHunkDiff",
"cmd-\"": "editor::ExpandAllHunkDiffs",
```
that allow to browse git hunk diffs in Zed:

The hunks are dynamic and alter on user folds and modifications, or
toggle hidden, if the modifications were not adjacent to the expanded
hunk.
Release Notes:
- Added `editor::ToggleHunkDiff` (`cmd-'`) and
`editor::ExpandAllHunkDiffs` (`cmd-"`) actions to browse git hunk diffs
in Zed
This PR adds support for replacing the current preview tab when using
GoToDefinition. Previously a tab, that was navigated away from, was
converted into a permanent tab and the new tab was opened as preview.
Without `enable_preview_from_code_navigation`:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/53836821/8c60efcb-d597-40bf-b08b-13faf5a289b6
Note: In the future I would like to improve support for the navigation
history, because right now tabs that are not "normal" project items,
e.g. FindAllReferences cannot be reopened
Release Notes:
- Added support for replacing the current preview tab when using code
navigation (`enable_preview_from_code_navigation`)
This PR renames `language::Buffer::new` to `language::Buffer::local` and
simplifies its interface. Instead of taking a replica id (which should
always be 0 for the local case) and a `BufferId`, which was awkward and
verbose to construct, it simply takes text and a `cx`.
It uses the `cx` to derive a `BufferId` from the `EntityId` associated
with the `cx`, which should always be positive based on the following
analysis...
We convert the entity id to a u64 using this method on `EntityId`, which
is defined by macros in the `slotmap` crate:
```rust
pub fn as_ffi(self) -> u64 {
(u64::from(self.version.get()) << 32) | u64::from(self.idx)
}
```
If you look at the type of `version` in `KeyData`, it is non-zero:
```rust
#[derive(Clone, Copy, PartialEq, Eq, PartialOrd, Ord, Hash)]
pub struct KeyData {
idx: u32,
version: NonZeroU32,
}
```
This commit also adds `Context::reserve_model` and
`Context::insert_model` to determine a model's entity ID before it is
created, which we need in order to assign a `BufferId` in the background
when loading a buffer asynchronously.

This fixed an issue introduced in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/10126, where, when toggling
comments in a language with multiple line comment prefixes (e.g. Gleam,
Erlang) Zed would insert the *last* prefix instead of the first.
Release Notes:
- Fixed an issue where the `toggle comments` command inserted the wrong
line comment prefix in some languages (preview only).

Release notes:
- Fixed a crash when joining two consecutive lines
([#9692](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/9692)).
This crash is not caused by `vim` or `editor`'s code logic, `join_line`
logic is okay, I found that the crash is caused by a refresh of git
`diff` after every update, hhen git diff generates hunks, it will look
for the cursor to the beginning of a line, and judge that if the cursor
result column is greater than 0, that is, it is not the beginning of a
line, it will correct the row to the next line, I think before we forgot
here that I need to adjust the column to 0 at the same time, otherwise
it is easy to go out of bounds, I am not sure if I need to add more
tests for this method, I can add if I need to, but I feel that this case
is a bit extreme

Fixes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/9792
This pull request moves the computation of scrollbar markers off the
main thread, to prevent them from grinding the editor to a halt when we
have a lot of them (e.g., when there are lots of search results on a
large file). With these changes we also avoid generating multiple quads
for adjacent markers, thus fixing an issue where we stop drawing other
primitives because we've drawn too many quads in the scrollbar.
Release Notes:
- Improved editor performance when displaying lots of search results,
diagnostics, or symbol highlights in the scrollbar
([#9792](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/9792)).

Sharing a project displays a notification (window) on every screen.
Previously there was an issue with the positioning of windows on all
screens except the primary screen.
As you can see here:

Now:

@mikayla-maki and I also decided to refactor the `WindowOptions` a bit.
Previously you could specify bounds which controlled the positioning and
size of the window in the global coordinate space, while also providing
a display id (which screen to show the window on). This can lead to
unusual behavior because you could theoretically specify a global bound
which does not even belong to the display id which was provided.
Therefore we changed the api to this:
```rust
struct WindowOptions {
/// The bounds of the window in screen coordinates
/// None -> inherit, Some(bounds) -> set bounds.
pub bounds: Option<Bounds<DevicePixels>>,
/// The display to create the window on, if this is None,
/// the window will be created on the main display
pub display_id: Option<DisplayId>,
}
```
This lets you specify a display id, which maps to the screen where the
window should be created and bounds relative to the upper left of the
screen.
Release Notes:
- Fixed positioning of popup windows (e.g. when sharing a project) when
using multiple external displays.

This pull request introduces a new `InlineCompletionProvider` trait,
which enables making `Editor` copilot-agnostic and lets us push all the
copilot functionality into the `copilot_ui` module. Long-term, I would
like to merge `copilot` and `copilot_ui`, but right now `project`
depends on `copilot`, which makes this impossible.
The reason for adding this new trait is so that we can experiment with
other inline completion providers and swap them at runtime using config
settings.
Please, note also that we renamed some of the existing copilot actions
to be more agnostic (see release notes below). We still kept the old
actions bound for backwards-compatibility, but we should probably remove
them at some later version.
Also, as a drive-by, we added new methods to the `Global` trait that let
you read or mutate a global directly, e.g.:
```rs
MyGlobal::update(cx, |global, cx| {
});
```
Release Notes:
- Renamed the `copilot::Suggest` action to
`editor::ShowInlineCompletion`
- Renamed the `copilot::NextSuggestion` action to
`editor::NextInlineCompletion`
- Renamed the `copilot::PreviousSuggestion` action to
`editor::PreviousInlineCompletion`
- Renamed the `editor::AcceptPartialCopilotSuggestion` action to
`editor::AcceptPartialInlineCompletion`

Fixes
https://github.com/orgs/zed-industries/projects/14/views/1?pane=issue&itemId=56263346
Fixes a state where Zed multi buffers were not reachable after going to
an excerpt inside it (with alt-enter).
I suspect, we will have to come back to multi buffer history and check
the way it behaves on inner excerpts clicking, but now this change seems
to restore the main thing: multi buffers not being shown in the history
at all.
Release Notes:
- Fixes "go backwards" not considering multibuffers in history
This fixes#9292 by adding a section to the language server settings
that allows users to specify the binary path and arguments with which to
start up a language server.
Example user settings for `rust-analyzer`:
```json
{
"lsp": {
"rust-analyzer": {
"binary": {
"path": "/Users/thorstenball/tmp/rust-analyzer-aarch64-apple-darwin",
"arguments": ["--no-log-buffering"]
}
}
}
}
```
Constraints:
* Right now this only allows ABSOLUTE paths.
* This is only used by `rust-analyzer` integration right now, but the
setting can be used for other language servers. We just need to update
the adapters to also respect that setting.
Release Notes:
- Added ability to specify `rust-analyzer` binary `path` (must be
absolute) and `arguments` in user settings. Example: `{"lsp":
{"rust-analyzer": {"binary": {"path": "/my/abs/path/rust-analyzer",
"arguments": ["--no-log-buffering"] }}}}`
([#9292](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/9292)).
