Nate Butler 773ad6bfd1 Document the theme crate (#18690)
This PR enables required documentation for the `theme` crate starts on
documenting it.

The end goal is to have all meaningful documentation in the crate filled
out – However I'm not sure that just adding `#![deny(missing_docs)]` to
the whole crate is the right approach.

I don't know that having 200+ "The color of the _ color" field docs is
useful however–In the short term I've excluded some of the modules that
contain structs with a ton of fields (`colors, `status`, etc.) until we
decide what the right solution here is.

Next steps are to clean up the crate, removing unused modules or those
with low usage in favor of other approaches.

Changes in this PR:
- Enable the `deny(missing_docs)` lint for the `theme` crate
- Start documenting a subset of the crate.
- Enable `#![allow(missing_docs)]` for some modules.

thataboyandMarshall Bowers 11058765be Add ability to separately set background color for highlighted brackets (#17566)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/16380

Currently brackets are highlighted with
`editor.document_highlight.read_background`. This commit adds a separate
`editor.document_highlight.bracket_background` theme setting so bracket
highlights can be made more prominent without doing the same to other
highlights, making the display too busy.

(My own theme)

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/29a8c05e-2f1a-4c16-9be8-a4b4cb143548

I set defaults for light and dark theme that I hope are sensible and not
too obnoxious, but noticeable so people can change it if they don't like
it.

Release Notes:

- Added `editor.document_highlight.bracket_background` field to the
theme to set background color of highlighted brackets.
- This will fall back to `editor.document_highlight.read_background`, if
not set.

Marshall Bowers 064bdab459 theme: Warn when deprecated scrollbar_thumb.background style is used (#13081)
This PR adds a warning when the deprecated `scrollbar_thumb.background`
style property is present in a theme.

This property has been succeeded by `scrollbar.thumb.background`.

The primary reason for this is to get it into the `zed-extension` CLI so
that we can use it to detect which themes need to be updated.

Danielle Maywood 7969a10643 Support setting custom background color for syntax highlighting (#12400)
Release Notes:

- Added support for `background_color` in `syntax` map in `theme.json`.

This adds support for setting a `background_color` for styles inside the
`syntax` map for themes defined in `theme.json`. The field is optional
so there should be no backwards compatibility issues.

It is worth noting that the current behaviour for selecting text is that
the background colours will mix/blend (I'm not sure the correct term
here). Changing this behaviour, or making it configurable, looks to be a
far more complex issue and I'm not sure I know how to do it.

Andrew LyginandMarshall Bowers a0f236af5d themes: Add pane_group.border color (#9986)
This PR adds the `pane_group.border` theme attribute that defines the
color of the borders between pane groups.

- Defaults to the `border` color, so nothing changes in the existing
themes.
- VSCode theme converter takes it from the `editorGroup.border`.

The borders marked by red are affected:

Marshall Bowers 9b453d2cbc Remove old themes using UserTheme constructs (#6897)

Marshall Bowers 5f1dcb76fe Load JSON themes (#6893)
This PR changes the theme loading to use the JSON themes bundled with
the binary rather then the Rust theme definitions.

### Performance

I profiled this using `cargo run --release` to see what the speed
differences would be now that we're deserializing JSON:

**Before:** `ThemeRegistry::load_user_themes` took 16.656666ms
**After:** `ThemeRegistry::load_user_themes` took 18.784875ms

It's slightly slower, but not by much. There is probably some work we
could do here to bring down the theme loading time in general.

this, so that crate is a bit rough-and-ready at the moment.

Marshall Bowers f5f7be1500 Add experimental.theme_overrides to settings file (#6791)
This PR adds **experimental** support for overriding theme values in the
current theme.

Be advised that both the existence of this setting and the structure of
the theme itself are subject to change.

But this is a first step towards allowing Zed users to customize or
bring their own themes.

### How it works

There is a new `experimental.theme_overrides` setting in
`settings.json`.

This accepts an object containing overrides for values in the theme. All
values are optional, and will be overlaid on top of whatever theme you
currently have set by the `theme` field.

There is JSON schema support to show which values are supported.

### Example

Here's an example of it in action:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/1486634/173b94b1-4d88-4333-b980-8fed937e6f6d

Release Notes:

- Added `experimental.theme_overrides` to `settings.json` to allow for
customizing the current theme.
  - This setting is experimental and subject to change.
