Kirill Bulatov fa54fa80d0 Store pulled diagnostics' result_ids more persistently (#32403)
Follow-up of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/19230

`BufferId` can change between file reopens: e.g. open the buffer, close
it, go back in history to reopen it — the 2nd one will have a different
`BufferId`, but the same `result_ids` semantically.

Kirill Bulatov 77ead25f8c Implement the rest of the worktree pulls (#32269)
Follow-up of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/19230

Implements the workspace diagnostics pulling, and replaces "pull
diagnostics every open editors' buffer" strategy with "pull changed
buffer's diagnostics" + "schedule workspace diagnostics pull" for the
rest of the diagnostics.

This means that if the server does not support the workspace diagnostics
and does not return more in linked files, only the currently edited
buffer has its diagnostics updated.

This is better than the existing implementation that causes a lot of
diagnostics pulls to be done instead, and we can add more heuristics on
top later for querying more diagnostics.

7aa70a4858 lsp: Implement support for the textDocument/diagnostic command (#19230)
Closes [#13107](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/13107)

Enabled pull diagnostics by default, for the language servers that
declare support in the corresponding capabilities.

```
"diagnostics": {
    "lsp_pull_diagnostics_debounce_ms": null
}
```
settings can be used to disable the pulling.

Release Notes:

- Added support for the LSP `textDocument/diagnostic` command.

# Brief

This is draft PR that implements the LSP `textDocument/diagnostic`
command. The goal is to receive your feedback and establish further
steps towards fully implementing this command. I tried to re-use
existing method and structures to ensure:

1. The existing functionality works as before
2. There is no interference between the diagnostics sent by a server and
the diagnostics requested by a client.

The current implementation is done via a new LSP command
`GetDocumentDiagnostics` that is sent when a buffer is saved and when a
buffer is edited. There is a new method called `pull_diagnostic` that is
called for such events. It has debounce to ensure we don't spam a server
with commands every time the buffer is edited. Probably, we don't need
the debounce when the buffer is saved.

All in all, the goal is basically to get your feedback and ensure I am
on the right track. Thanks!

Kirill Bulatov 16366cf9f2 Use anyhow more idiomatically (#31052)
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/30972 brought up another
case where our context is not enough to track the actual source of the
issue: we get a general top-level error without inner error.

The reason for this was `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("failed to read HEAD
SHA"))?; ` on the top level.

The PR finally reworks the way we use anyhow to reduce such issues (or
at least make it simpler to bubble them up later in a fix).
On top of that, uses a few more anyhow methods for better readability.

* `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("..."))`, `map_err` and other similar error
conversion/option reporting cases are replaced with `context` and
`with_context` calls
* in addition to that, various `anyhow!("failed to do ...")` are
stripped with `.context("Doing ...")` messages instead to remove the
parasitic `failed to` text
* `anyhow::ensure!` is used instead of `if ... { return Err(...); }`
calls
* `anyhow::bail!` is used instead of `return Err(anyhow!(...));`

João Marcos b15ee1b1cc Add dedicated actions for LSP completions insertion mode (#28121)
Adds actions so you can have customized keybindings for `insert` and
`replace` modes.

And add `shift-enter` as a default for `replace`, this will override the
default setting
`completions.lsp_insert_mode` which is set to `replace_suffix`, which
tries to "smartly"
decide whether to replace or insert based on the surrounding text.

For those who come from VSCode, if you want to mimic their behavior, you
only have to
set `completions.lsp_insert_mode` to `insert`.

If you want `tab` and `enter` to do different things, you need to remap
them, here is
an example:

```jsonc
[
  // ...
  {
    "context": "Editor && showing_completions",
    "bindings": {
      "enter": "editor::ConfirmCompletionInsert",
      "tab": "editor::ConfirmCompletionReplace"
    }
  },
]
```

Closes #24577

- [x] Make LSP completion insertion mode decision in guest's machine
(host is currently deciding it and not allowing guests to have their own
setting for it)
- [x] Add shift-enter as a hotkey for `replace` by default.
- [x] Test actions.
- [x] Respect the setting being specified per language, instead of using
the "defaults".
- [x] Move `insert_range` of `Completion` to the Lsp variant of
`.source`.
- [x] Fix broken default, forgotten after
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/27453#pullrequestreview-2736906628,
should be `replace_suffix` and not `insert`.

Release Notes:

- LSP completions: added actions `ConfirmCompletionInsert` and
`ConfirmCompletionReplace` that control how completions are inserted,
these override `completions.lsp_insert_mode`, by default, `shift-enter`
triggers `ConfirmCompletionReplace` which replaces the whole word.

07a77792c5 Add completions.lsp_insert_mode setting to control what ranges are replaced when a completion is inserted (#27453)
This PR adds `completions.lsp_insert_mode` and effectively changes the
default from `"replace"` to `"replace_suffix"`, which automatically
detects whether to use the LSP `replace` range instead of `insert`
range.

`"replace_suffix"` was chosen as a default because it's more
conservative than `"replace_subsequence"`, considering that deleting
text is usually faster and less disruptive than having to rewrite a long
replaced word.

Fixes #27197
Fixes #23395 (again)
Fixes #4816 (again)

Release Notes:

- Added new setting `completions.lsp_insert_mode` that changes what will
be replaced when an LSP completion is accepted. The default is
`"replace_suffix"`, but it accepts 4 values: `"insert"` for replacing
only the text before the cursor, `"replace"` for replacing the whole
text, `"replace_suffix"` that acts like `"replace"` when the text after
the cursor is a suffix of the completion, and `"replace_subsequence"`
that acts like `"replace"` when the text around your cursor is a
subsequence of the completion (similiar to a fuzzy match). Check [the
documentation](https://zed.dev/docs/configuring-zed#LSP-Insert-Mode) for
more information.

Kirill Bulatov 8a31dcaeb0 Use textDocument/codeLens data in the actions menu when applicable #2 (#26848)
Re-applies what's been reverted in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/26832 with an action-related
fix in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/commit/64b5d37d324176cc7b819418f46724cd4c67393d

Before, actions were resolved only if `data` is present and either of
the possible fields is empty:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/e842b4eade368127f01944f1b442016edd6b292d/crates/project/src/lsp_store.rs#L1632-L1633

But Zed resolves completions and inlays once, unconditionally, and the
reverted PR applied the same strategy to actions.
That did not work despite the spec not forbidding `data`-less actions to
be resolved.

Soon, it starts to work due to
https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-analyzer/pull/19369 but it seems safer
to restore the original filtering code.

Code lens have no issues with `data`-less resolves:

https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-analyzer/blob/220d913cbcd05f9b7635179a98c685f31821a572/crates/rust-analyzer/src/handlers/request.rs#L1618-L1620

so the same approach as completions and inlays is kept: resolve once.

Kirill Bulatov b61171f152 Use textDocument/codeLens data in the actions menu when applicable (#26811)
Similar to how tasks are fetched via LSP, also queries for document's
code lens and filters the ones with the commands, supported in server
capabilities.

Whatever's left and applicable to the range given, is added to the
actions menu:

![image](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/6161e87f-f4b4-4173-8bf9-30db5e94b1ce)

This way, Zed can get more actions to run, albeit neither r-a nor vtsls
seem to provide anything by default.

Currently, there are no plans to render code lens the way as in VSCode,
it's just the extra actions that are show in the menu.

------------------

As part of the attempts to use rust-analyzer LSP data about the
runnables, I've explored a way to get this data via standard LSP.

When particular experimental client capabilities are enabled (similar to
how clangd does this now), r-a starts to send back code lens with the
data needed to run a cargo command:

```
{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":48,"result":{"range":{"start":{"line":0,"character":0},"end":{"line":98,"character":0}},"command":{"title":"▶︎ Run Tests","command":"rust-analyzer.runSingle","arguments":[{"label":"test-mod tests::ecparser","location":{"targetUri":"file:///Users/someonetoignore/work/ec4rs/src/tests/ecparser.rs","targetRange":{"start":{"line":0,"character":0},"end":{"line":98,"character":0}},"targetSelectionRange":{"start":{"line":0,"character":0},"end":{"line":98,"character":0}}},"kind":"cargo","args":{"environment":{"RUSTC_TOOLCHAIN":"/Users/someonetoignore/.rustup/toolchains/1.85-aarch64-apple-darwin"},"cwd":"/Users/someonetoignore/work/ec4rs","overrideCargo":null,"workspaceRoot":"/Users/someonetoignore/work/ec4rs","cargoArgs":["test","--package","ec4rs","--lib"],"executableArgs":["tests::ecparser","--show-output"]}}]}}}
```

This data is passed as is to VSCode task processor, registered in

https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-analyzer/blob/60cd01864a2d0d6e2231becee402ba063b59dfa1/editors/code/src/main.ts#L195

where it gets eventually executed as a VSCode's task, all handled by the
r-a's extension code.

rust-analyzer does not declare server capabilities for such tasks, and
has no `workspace/executeCommand` handle, and Zed needs an interactive
terminal output during the test runs, so we cannot ask rust-analyzer
more than these descriptions.

Given that Zed needs experimental capabilities set to get these lens:

https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-analyzer/blob/60cd01864a2d0d6e2231becee402ba063b59dfa1/editors/code/src/client.ts#L318-L327

and that the lens may contain other odd tasks (e.g. docs opening or
references lookup), a protocol extension to get runnables looks more
preferred than lens:
https://rust-analyzer.github.io/book/contributing/lsp-extensions.html#runnables

This PR does not include any work on this direction, limiting to the
general code lens support.

As a proof of concept, it's possible to get the lens and even attempt to
run it, to no avail:

Kirill Bulatov 8a7a78fafb Avoid modifying the LSP message before resolving it (#26347)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/21277

To the left is current Zed, right is the improved version.
3rd message, from Zed, to resolve the item, does not have `textEdit` on
the right side, and has one on the left.
Seems to not influence the end result though, but at least Zed behaves
more appropriate now.

Instead of modifying the original LSP completion item, store completion
list defaults and apply them when the item is requested (except `data`
defaults, needed for resolve).

Now, the only place that can modify the completion items is this method,
and Python impl seems to be the one doing it:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/ca9c3af56ffb05a789c2b946489f4406af2c8281/crates/languages/src/python.rs#L182-L204

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

### issues post merge

- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures

Piotr OsiewiczandJoão 08b3c03241 project: Allow running multiple instances of a single language server within a single worktree (#23473)
This PR introduces a new entity called Project Tree which is responsible
for finding subprojects within a worktree;
a subproject is a language-specific subset of a worktree which should be
accurately tracked on the language server side. We'll have an ability to
set multiple disjoint workspaceFolders on language server side OR spawn
multiple instances of a single language server (which will be the case
with e.g. Python language servers, as they need to interact with
multiple disjoint virtual environments).
Project Tree assumes that projects of the same LspAdapter kind cannot
overlap. Additionally project nesting is not allowed within the scope of
a single LspAdapter.

Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/5108

Kirill Bulatov ed61abb8b8 Resolve completion items once exactly (#22448)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/19214
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/22443

Adds `resolved` property into Zed completion item data, to ensure we
resolve every completion item exactly once.

There are 2 paths for singplayer Zed, and corresponding 2 analogues for
multi player code, where resolve may happen:
* completions menu display & selection, that ends up using
`resolve_completions` in `lsp_store.rs`
* applying a completion menu entry, that ends up using
`apply_additional_edits_for_completion` in `lsp_store.rs`

Now, all local counterparts check `enabled` field before resolving and
set it to true afterwards, and reuse the same `resolve_completion_local`
method for resolving the items.

A logic for re-generating docs and item labels was moved out from the
`resolve_completion_local` method into a separate method, as
`apply_additional_edits_for_completion` does not need that, but needs
the rest of the logic for resolving.
During the extraction, I've noted that multiplayer clients are not
getting the item labels, regenerated after the resolve — as the Zed
protocol-based flow is not the exact copy of the local resolving.
To improve that, `resolve_completion_remote` needs to be adjusted, but
this change is omitted to avoid bloating the PR.

- Fixed autocomplete inserting multiple imports

TechatrixandPiotr Osiewicz d5f2bca382 Filter LSP code actions based on the requested kinds (#20847)
I've observed that Zed's implementation of [Code Actions On
Format](https://zed.dev/docs/configuring-zed#code-actions-on-format)
uses the
[CodeActionContext.only](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#codeActionContext)
parameter to request specific code action kinds from the server. The
issue is that it does not filter out code actions from the response,
believing that the server will do it.

The [LSP
specification](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#codeActionContext)
says that the client is responsible for filtering out unwanted code
actions:

```js
/**
* Requested kind of actions to return.
*
* Actions not of this kind are filtered out by the client before being
* shown. So servers can omit computing them.
*/
only?: CodeActionKind[];
```

This PR will filter out unwanted code action on the client side.

I have initially encountered this issue because the [ZLS language
server](https://github.com/zigtools/zls) (until
https://github.com/zigtools/zls/pull/2087) does not filter code action
based on `CodeActionContext.only` so Zed runs all received code actions
even if they are explicitly disabled in the `code_actions_on_format`
setting.

Release Notes:

- Fix the `code_actions_on_format` setting when used with a language
server like ZLS

Kirill BulatovandUlysse Buonomo d3cb08bf35 Support .editorconfig (#19455)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/8534
Supersedes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/16349

Potential concerns:
* we do not follow up to the `/` when looking for `.editorconfig`, only
up to the worktree root.
Seems fine for most of the cases, and the rest should be solved
generically later, as the same issue exists for settings.json
* `fn language` in `AllLanguageSettings` is very hot, called very
frequently during rendering. We accumulate and parse all `.editorconfig`
file contents beforehand, but have to go over globs and match these
against the path given + merge the properties still.
This does not seem to be very bad, but needs more testing and
potentially some extra caching.

- Added .editorconfig support

Luis CossíoandThorsten Ball 7b5fdcee7f lsp: Support Goto Declaration (#15785)
Adds support for [Goto
Declaration](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#textDocument_declaration)
LSP command.

I am particularly interested in [this for Rust
projects](https://rust-analyzer.github.io/manual.html#go-to-declaration),
to be able to navigate to the place where a trait method is declared,
coming from a trait method implementation.

I noticed this was something I could do in VSCode before, but was
somehow missing is Zed. Thanks to the already existing infrastructure
for Goto Definition, I just followed and copy-paste-adapted it for Goto
Declaration.

As a bonus, I added `ctrl-F12` and `alt-ctrl-F12` as default macOS
keybindings for `GoToDeclaration` and `GoToDeclarationSplit`,
respectively. They are not keybindings from another editor, but I
figured they made sense to be grouped along with the other *F12
commands.

### Release Notes:

- Added "Go to declaration" editor action.
- vim: Breaking change to keybindings after introduction of the `Go to
declaration` editor action. The new keybindings are the following (and
can be found [here](https://zed.dev/docs/vim), alongside the other key
bindings):
  - `g d` - Go to definition
  - `g D` - Go to declaration
  - `g y` - Go to type definition
  - `g I` - Go to implementation
