smit e061ebb46c editor: Fix cmd + click on a URL not working sometimes (#26128)
Closes #25647

This PR fixes two issues related to cmd + click on URL:

1. Normally cmd + click on URL, it opens browser. Now, alt + tab back to
Zed. If you cmd + click on link again it won't work, until you normal
click some where else in buffer. It won't even show underline.

2. Again, cmd + click on URL, it opens browser. Now, alt + tab back to
Zed. If you cmd + click, some where else in buffer like just normal
text, and now try to hover on URL it won't show up underline and cmd +
click on it won't work. Unless again, if you plain click somewhere else.

Problem:

Issue is when clicking we set pending anchor (for selection), and when
we mouse up we clear those. This works for normal case without pressing
any modifier.

But, in case of cmd modifier, we set pending anchor (set when
`SelectPhase::Begin`), but we don't clear it once we use that data.

Fix:

Once we end up using selection, anchor, etc data to figure out where to
navigate either URL/defination etc, we clear selection just like how we
do it in normal click. This doesn't require to happen after navigate
task, so we do it right after our usage of it.

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

### issues post merge

tims 5318f529de Improve editor open URL command to open the selected portion of URL (#21825)

the URL. Otherwise, if only the cursor is on a URL, it opens the entire

Zach Bruggeman 3ac119ac4e Fix hovered links underline not showing when using cmd_or_ctrl for multi_cursor_modifier (#20949)
I use `cmd_or_ctrl` for `multi_cursor_modifier`, but noticed that if I
hovered a code reference while holding alt, it wouldn't show the
underline. Instead, it would only show when pressing cmd. Looking at the
code, it seems like this was just a small oversight on always checking
for `modifiers.secondary`, instead of reading from the
`multi_cursor_modifier` setting to determine which button was invoking
link handling.

Marshall Bowers 373a17acf4 Add ability to display backgrounds for inlay hints (#18010)
This PR adds the ability to display backgrounds for inlay hints within
the editor.

This is controlled by the new `inlay_hints.show_background` setting.
This setting defaults to `false`.

To enable the setting, add the following to your `settings.json`:

```json
{
  "inlay_hints": {
    "enabled": true,
    "show_background": true
  }
}
```

When enabled, the inlay hint backgrounds will use the `hint.background`
color from the theme.

Congyu 21022f1644 Fix cmd+click find all references fallback not working in Vim mode (#10684)
Exclude go-to-definition links returned by LSP that points to the
current cursor position. This fixes #10392 . Related PR #9243 .

The previous implementation first performs go-to-definition, and if the
selected text covers the clicked position, it figures out that it is
already clicking on a definition, and should instead look for
references.

However, the selected range does not necessarily cover the clicked
position after clicking on a definition, as in VIM mode.

After the PR, if cmd+click on definitions, the definition links would be
an empty list, so no go-to-definition is performed, and
find-all-references is performed instead.

Release Notes:

- Fixed #10392 , now `cmd+click`ing to find all references works in vim

### Problem

After transitioning Zed to GPUI 2, we started noticing that interacting
with the mouse on many UI elements would lead to a pretty annoying
flicker. The main issue with the old approach was that hover state was
calculated based on the previous frame. That is, when computing whether
a given element was hovered in the current frame, we would use
information about the same element in the previous frame.

However, inspecting the previous frame tells us very little about what
should be hovered in the current frame, as elements in the current frame
may have changed significantly.

### Solution

This pull request's main contribution is the introduction of a new
`after_layout` phase when redrawing the window. The key idea is that
we'll give every element a chance to register a hitbox (see
`ElementContext::insert_hitbox`) before painting anything. Then, during
the `paint` phase, elements can determine whether they're the topmost
and draw their hover state accordingly.

We are also removing the ability to give an arbitrary z-index to
elements. Instead, we will follow the much simpler painter's algorithm.
That is, an element that gets painted after will be drawn on top of an
element that got painted earlier. Elements can still escape their
current "stacking context" by using the new `ElementContext::defer_draw`
method (see `Overlay` for an example). Elements drawn using this method
will still be logically considered as being children of their original
parent (for keybinding, focus and cache invalidation purposes) but their
layout and paint passes will be deferred until the currently-drawn
element is done.

With these changes we also reworked geometry batching within the
`Scene`. The new approach uses an AABB tree to determine geometry
occlusion, which allows the GPU to render non-overlapping geometry in
parallel.

### Performance

Performance is slightly better than on `main` even though this new
approach is more correct and we're maintaining an extra data structure
(the AABB tree).

Thorsten BallandKirill ddca6a3fb7 Debounce refresh of inlay hints on buffer edits (#8282)
I think this makes it less chaotic to edit text when the inlay hints are
on.

It's for cases where you're editing to the right side of an inlay hint.
Example:

```rust
for name in names.iter().map(|item| item.len()) {
    println!("{:?}", name);
}
```

We display a `usize` inlay hint right next to `name`.

But as soon as you remove that `.` in `names.iter` your cursor jumps
around because the inlay hint has been removed.

With this change we now have a 700ms debounce before we update the inlay
hints.

VS Code seems to have an even longer debounce, I think somewhere around
~1s.

Release Notes:

- Added debouncing to make it easier to edit text when inlay hints are
enabled and to save rendering of inlay hints when scrolling. Both
debounce durations can be configured with `{"inlay_hints":
{"edit_debounce_ms": 700}}` (default) and `{"inlay_hints":
{"scroll_debounce_ms": 50}}`. Set a value to `0` to turn off the
debouncing.
