This Pull Request tackles the issue outline in #14287 by changing the
way `KeyBinding`s for vim mode are displayed in the command palette.
It's worth pointing out that this whole thing was pretty much
implemented by Conrad Irwin during a pairing session, I just tried to
clean up some other changes introduced for a different issue, while
improving some comments.
Here's a quick list of the changes introduced:
- Update `KeyBinding` with a new `vim_mode` field to determine whether
the keybinding should be displayed in vim mode.
- Update the way `KeyBinding` is rendered, so as to detect if the
keybinding is for vim mode, if it is, only display keys in uppercase if
they require the shift key.
- Introduce a new global state – `VimStyle(bool)` - use to determine
whether `vim_mode` should be enabled or disabled when creating a new
`KeyBinding` struct. This global state is automatically set by the `vim`
crate whenever vim mode is enabled or disabled.
- Since the app's context is now required when building a `KeyBinding` ,
update a lot of callers to correctly pass this context.

Closes#14287
Release Notes:
- Fix rendering of vim commands to preserve case sensitivity
---------
Co-authored-by: Conrad Irwin <conrad.irwin@gmail.com>
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs
### issues post merge
- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures
- [x] Mac build issue

- Adds the Switch component
- Updates `Selected`, `Selectable` -> `ToggleState`, `Toggleable`
- Adds `checkbox` and `switch` functions to align better with other
elements in our layout system.
We decided not to merge Switch and Checkbox. However, in a followup I'll
introduce a Toggle or AnyToggle enum so we can update
`CheckboxWithLabel` -> `ToggleWithLabel` as this component will work
exactly the same with either a Checkbox or a Switch.

This PR creates a new, revamped `DecoratedIcon` component that enables
using different SVGs, one for the knockout background and another for
the actual icon. That's different than what we were doing before—copying
the SVG and using slightly different positioning—because we wanted to
unlock an aligned knockout effect, which was particularly hard to do
with non-simple shapes such as an X.

This PR improves adding and working with icons by using the new
`DerivePathStr` to derive icon paths.
This means paths no longer need to be manually specified, and the
`IconName` and file name will always be consistent between icons.
This PR does not do any work to standardize icons visually, remove
unused icons, or any other such cleanup.

This adds a pulsating effect to the assistant header in case the message
is pending.
The pulsating effect is capped between 0.2 and 1.0 and I tried (with the
help of Claude) to give it a "breathing" effect, since I found the
normal bounce a bit too much.
Also opted for setting the `alpha` on the `LabelLike` things, vs.
overwriting the color, since I think that's cleaner instead of exposing
the color and mutating that.

This PR adds settings controls for the UI and buffer font weight
settings.
It also does some work around grouping the settings into related
sections.

This PR extracts a singular title bar (`title_bar::TitleBar`) from
`ui::TitleBar` and
`collab_ui::collab_titlebar_item::CollabTitlebarItem`.
This is a first step towards organizing title bar things into one place,
and standardizing platform titlebar/window control implementations.

Adds some of the UI components to allow us to visually render settings.
These are UI only and are not functional yet (@maxdeviant will be
working on these when he is back.)
You can see some examples by running `script/storybook setting`.

This PR makes the `border` methods require an explicit width instead of
defaulting to 1px.
This breaks convention with Tailwind, but it makes GPUI more consistent
with itself. We already have an edge case where the parameterized method
had to be named `border_width`, since `border` was taken up by an alias
for the 1px variant.
### Before
```rs
div()
.border()
.border_t()
.border_r()
.border_b()
.border_l()
.border_width(px(7.))
```
### After
```rs
div()
.border_1()
.border_t_1()
.border_r_1()
.border_b_1()
.border_l_1()
.border(px(7.))
```

This PR continues the refinements to the `TitleBar` component.
Here are the notable changes:
- `KeyBindingDisplay` and `PlatformStyle` have been unified into a
single `PlatformStyle`.
- This provides us a consistent way for adapting UI to different
platform styles.
- `PlatformTitlebar` has been renamed to `TitleBar`.
- The `Platform` prefix was irrelevant.
- The Windows window controls have been factored out into a separate
module and have been componentized.

This PR is a follow-up to #7084, where I noted that I wasn't satisfied
with using `SharedUri` to represent both URIs and paths on the local
filesystem:
> I'm still not entirely happy with this naming, as the file paths that
we can store in here are not _really_ URIs, as they are lacking a
protocol.
>
> I want to explore changing `SharedUri` / `SharedUrl` back to alway
storing a URL and treat local filepaths differently, as it seems we're
conflating two different concerns under the same umbrella, at the
moment.
`SharedUri` has now been reverted to just containing a `SharedString`
with a URI.
`ImageSource` now has a new `File` variant that is used to load an image
from a `PathBuf`.

This PR renames `SharedUrl` to `SharedUri` to better reflect its intent.
I'm still not entirely happy with this naming, as the file paths that we
can store in here are not _really_ URIs, as they are lacking a protocol.
I want to explore changing `SharedUri` / `SharedUrl` back to alway
storing a URL and treat local filepaths differently, as it seems we're
conflating two different concerns under the same umbrella, at the
moment.

This PR implements support for loading and displaying images from a
local file using gpui's `img` element.
API Changes:
- Changed `SharedUrl` to `SharedUrl::File`, `SharedUrl::Network`
Usage:
```rust
// load from network
img(SharedUrl::network(...)) // previously img(SharedUrl(...)
// load from filesystem
img(SharedUrl::file(...))
```
This will be useful when implementing markdown image support, because we
need to be able to render images from the filesystem (relative/absolute
path), e.g. when implementing markdown preview #5064.
I also added an example `image` to the gpui crate, let me know if this
is useful. Showcase:
<img width="872" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/53836821/b4310a26-db81-44fa-9a7b-61e7d0ad4349">
**Note**: The example is fetching images from [Lorem
Picsum](https://picsum.photos) ([Github
Repo](https://github.com/DMarby/picsum-photos)), which is a free
resource for fetching images in a specific size. Please let me know if
you're okay with using this in the example.
This PR increases the width of the border that we use to indicate when a
call participant is speaking.
This should make it more apparent in the UI when someone is speaking.
Release Notes:
- Increased the width of the ring used to indicate when someone is
speaking in a call.
This PR improves the muted indicators to make it clearer when a call
participant is muted.
Previously we used a red border color to denote when a participant was
muted.
Now we render an indicator with an icon to more clearly indicate the
participant's muted status:
<img width="303" alt="Screenshot 2024-01-16 at 4 05 15 PM"
src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/1486634/d30fcd84-48e7-4959-b3c4-1054162c6bd6">
Hovering over the indicator will display a tooltip for further
explanation:
<img width="456" alt="Screenshot 2024-01-16 at 4 05 25 PM"
src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/1486634/6345846f-196c-47d9-8d65-c8d86e63f823">
This change also paves the way for denoting the deafened status for call
participants.
Release Notes:
- Improved the mute indicator for call participants.
This PR reworks the way we add indicators to `Avatar`s to make them more
general-purpose.
Previously we had logic specific to the availability indicator embedded
in the `Avatar` component, which made it unwieldy to repurpose for
something else.
Now the `indicator` is just a slot that we can put anything into.

This PR renames the `h_stack` and `v_stack` to `h_flex` and `v_flex`,
respectively.
We were previously using `h_stack` and `v_stack` to match SwiftUI, but
`h_flex` and `v_flex` fit better with the web/flexbox terminology that
the rest of GPUI uses.
Additionally, we were already calling the utility functions used to
implement `h_stack` and `v_stack` by the new names.
Release Notes:

This PR renames the `IconElement` component to just `Icon`.
This better matches the rest of our components, as `IconElement` was the
only one using this naming convention.
The `Icon` enum has been renamed to `IconName` to free up the name.
I was trying to come up with a way that would allow rendering an
`Icon::Zed` directly (and thus make the `IconElement` a hidden part of
the API), but I couldn't come up with a way to do this cleanly.
