Marshall Bowers 4e5b11a0a7 extensions_ui: Add general structure for filtering extensions by what they provide (#24325)
This PR adds the general structure for filtering the extensions list by
what the extensions provide.

Currently flagged for Zed staff until we get some design direction on
how best to present the filter.

Marshall Bowers b7244af093 extensions_ui: Show extension features on cards (#24310)
This PR updates the extensions list to display the features that an
extension provides.

Note that this will only show up for extensions that have this data
(which will be extensions published/updated on or after now).

Here's the view with some mocked data:

Joseph T. Lyons a8741dc310 Migrate more events to telemetry::event! macro (#24102)
I believe this takes care of the remaining events running through the
old flow that requires transformation at the collab server level. I
think all events are now going through `telemetry::event!()`.

For anyone curious where the new telemetry names are coming from, you
can check the `for_snowflake` function within
`crates/collab/src/api/events.rs`, to see how collab is currently
transforming the events going through the old flow.

Marshall Bowers f29b33ec85 extensions_ui: Show the filtered icon theme selector when installing an icon theme (#23992)
This PR makes it so when you install an extension with icon themes it
will deploy the icon theme selector filtered down to the newly-installed
icon themes.

This is similar to what we do when installing an extension with themes.

Because we can only have one picker open at a time, when installing an
extension that has _both_ themes and icon themes, the theme selector
will take precedence.

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

### issues post merge

- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures

Marshall Bowers cb77ee04ec extensions_ui: Show an error toast when a dev extension fails to install (#22914)
This PR adds an error toast that will be displayed when installing a dev
extension fails.

Here's what it looks like:

<img width="1310" alt="Screenshot 2025-01-09 at 11 56 42 AM"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b65eb9f9-c559-4b99-b64a-ee301fa9e443"
/>

<img width="1310" alt="Screenshot 2025-01-09 at 12 10 30 PM"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/f4880221-2ed9-4bb0-9d48-1cb29c2b483f"
/>

I did have to touch the workspace `ErrorMessagePrompt` component to make
it scroll for long messages. I don't anticipate this being a problem for
other classes of errors (if anything, I suspect other long errors will
become more usable now).

Closes #21237.

- Adds the Switch component
- Updates `Selected`, `Selectable` -> `ToggleState`, `Toggleable`
- Adds `checkbox` and `switch` functions to align better with other
elements in our layout system.

We decided not to merge Switch and Checkbox. However, in a followup I'll
introduce a Toggle or AnyToggle enum so we can update
`CheckboxWithLabel` -> `ToggleWithLabel` as this component will work
exactly the same with either a Checkbox or a Switch.

uncenterandMarshall Bowers 995b40f149 Add "Copy Extension ID" action to extension card dropdown (#21395)
Adds a new "Copy Extension ID" action to the dropdown of remote
extension cards in the extensions list UI. Would have liked for it to be
a context menu where you could click anywhere on the card, but couldn't
figure out how to integrate that with the existing setup.

I've been missing this from VSCode's extension panel, which allows this
on right click:

need the IDs.

Marshall Bowers 1cfcdfa7ac Overhaul extension registration (#21083)
This PR overhauls extension registration in order to make it more
modular.

The `extension` crate now contains an `ExtensionHostProxy` that can be
used to register various proxies that the extension host can use to
interact with the rest of the system.

There are now a number of different proxy traits representing the
various pieces of functionality that can be provided by an extension.
The respective crates that provide this functionality can implement
their corresponding proxy trait in order to register a proxy that the
extension host will use to register the bits of functionality provided
by the extension.

Marshall Bowers b084d53f8e Extract ExtensionIndexedDocsProvider to indexed_docs crate (#20607)
This PR extracts the `ExtensionIndexedDocsProvider` implementation to
the `indexed_docs` crate.

To achieve this, we introduce a new `Extension` trait that provides an
abstracted interface for calling an extension. This trait resides in the
`extension` crate, which has minimal dependencies and can be depended on
by other crates, like `indexed_docs`.

We're then able to implement the `ExtensionIndexedDocsProvider` without
having any knowledge of the Wasm-specific internals of the extension
system.

Marshall Bowers f92e6e9a95 Add support for context server extensions (#20250)
This PR adds support for context servers provided by extensions.

To provide a context server from an extension, you need to list the
context servers in your `extension.toml`:

```toml
[context_servers.my-context-server]
```

And then implement the `context_server_command` method to return the
command that will be used to start the context server:

```rs
use zed_extension_api::{self as zed, Command, ContextServerId, Result};
struct ExampleContextServerExtension;
impl zed::Extension for ExampleContextServerExtension {
    fn new() -> Self {
        ExampleContextServerExtension
    }
    fn context_server_command(&mut self, _context_server_id: &ContextServerId) -> Result<Command> {
        Ok(Command {
            command: "node".to_string(),
            args: vec!["/path/to/example-context-server/index.js".to_string()],
            env: Vec::new(),
        })
}
The `tab_content` method now has a default implementation that—unless
overridden—will construct a `Label` out of the text. This default
implementation also takes care of setting the label color based on the
active state of the tab, something that previously had to be repeated in
each `tab_content` implementation.
The majority of our tabs are now using `tab_content_text`.
Nathan SoboandAntonio Scandurra 5f98b9617a Start on a database-backed prompt library (#12468)
Using the file system as a database seems like it's easy, but it's
actually a real pain. I'd like to use LMDB to store the prompts locally
so we have more control. We can always add an export option, but I want
the source of truth to be somewhere other than the file system.
So far, I have a PromptStore which is global to the application and can
be initialized on startup. Then there's a `PromptLibrary` which is
intended to be the root of a new kind of Zed window. I haven't actually
seen pixels yet, but I've sketched out the basics needed to create a new
prompt, save, etc.
Still lots to figure out but the foundations of being backed by a DB and
rendering in an independent window are in place.
Mikayla Maki 5a149b970c Make tests less noisy (#12463)
When running the tests for linux, I found a lot of benign errors getting
logged. This PR cuts down some of the noise from unnecessary workspace
serialization and SVG renders
Marshall Bowers 85ff80f3c0 Restrict v0.0.7 of the zed_extension_api to dev builds, for now (#12170)
This PR restricts usage of v0.0.7 of the `zed_extension_api` to dev
builds, for now.
As we're still making changes to it, we don't want to ship a version of
Zed to Preview/Stable that claims to support a yet-unreleased version of
the extension API.
