### DISCLAIMER
> As of 6th March 2025, debugger is still in development. We plan to
merge it behind a staff-only feature flag for staff use only, followed
by non-public release and then finally a public one (akin to how Git
panel release was handled). This is done to ensure the best experience
when it gets released.

Going for a different, arguably simpler design for the Assistant 2 empty
state here. Also took the opportunity to adjust other elements like the
toolbar, message editor, and some items in the configuration page.

@nathansobo and I paired on revising this menu, including adding the
"Predict Edits at Cursor" menu item (to make the keyboard shortcut more
discoverable; clicking it makes the inline edits show up, as shown in
the second screenshot) and switching from "Hide/Show" language to
checkboxes.

We also switched to use `SharedString` in more places, where it made
more sense.
@danilo-leal This isn't necessarily *exactly* what we want, but we were
pairing and decided to get it in a state where we can actually try it
out and tweak from here.

There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs
### issues post merge
- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures
- [x] Mac build issue

This PR updates the `ListItem` component to not register an `on_click`
handler for `ListItem`s that are disabled.
When working on #23350 I noticed that even when the context menu entry
was disabled you could still click on the entry to fire the action.
Release Notes:
- Fixed some instances of disabled list items still registering clicks.
This PR makes `ListItem`s with `outlined` set use the same rounding for
their hover state to ensure that the hover background doesn't bleed
outside of the outline.

- Adds the Switch component
- Updates `Selected`, `Selectable` -> `ToggleState`, `Toggleable`
- Adds `checkbox` and `switch` functions to align better with other
elements in our layout system.
We decided not to merge Switch and Checkbox. However, in a followup I'll
introduce a Toggle or AnyToggle enum so we can update
`CheckboxWithLabel` -> `ToggleWithLabel` as this component will work
exactly the same with either a Checkbox or a Switch.

This PR adds keyboard shortcuts to common interactions you might want to
do in the Zeta rating panel.
This PR also adds a way to fake inline completion requests, as well as
the test data used to create this PR, to make it easier to adjust the UI
in the future.
It also changes the status bar from the text "Zeta" to "ζ", because I
thought it looked cool.

Density tracking issue: #18078
This PR refactors our spacing system to use a more flexible and
maintainable approach. We've replaced the static `Spacing` enum with a
dynamically generated `DynamicSpacing` enum using a proc macro.
Enum variants now use a `BaseXX` format, where XX = the pixel value @
default rem size and the default UI density.
For example:
`CustomSpacing::Base16` would return 16px at the default UI scale &
density.
I'd love to find another name other than `Base` that is clear (to avoid
base_10, etc confusion), let me know if you have any ideas!
Changes:
- Introduced a new `derive_dynamic_spacing` proc macro to generate the
`DynamicSpacing` enum
- Updated all usages of `Spacing` to use the new `DynamicSpacing`
- Removed the `custom_spacing` function, mapping previous usages to
appropriate `DynamicSpacing` variants
- Improved documentation and type safety for spacing values
New usage example:
```rust
.child(
div()
.flex()
.flex_none()
.m(DynamicSpacing::Base04.px(cx))
.size(DynamicSpacing::Base16.rems(cx))
.children(icon),
)
```
vs old usage example:
```
.child(
div()
.flex()
.flex_none()
.m(Spacing::Small.px(cx))
.size(custom_spacing(px(16.)))
.children(icon),
)
```

This PR refines the SSH modal UI, adjusting spacing and alignment. Via
these changes, I'm also introducing the ability for the `empty_message`
on the `List` component to receive not just a string but any element.
The custom way in which the SSH modal was designed made it feel like
this was needed for proper spacing.

Similar to https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/18690 &
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/18695, this PR enables
required docs for `ui` and does some cleanup.
Changes:
- Enables the `deny(missing_docs)` crate-wide.
- Adds `allow(missing_docs)` on many modules until folks pick them up to
document them
- Documents some modules (all in `ui/src/styles`)
- Crate root-level organization: Traits move to `traits`, other misc
organization
- Cleaned out a bunch of unused code.
Note: I'd like to remove `utils/format_distance` but the assistant panel
uses it. To move it over to use the `time_format` crate we may need to
update it to use `time` instead of `chrono`. Needs more investigation.

As a part of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/17488 I
flattened module structure of ui crate to fix module_inception lint.
However, that's actually unnecessary as we can pass that lint via a
custom knob for clippy.

This PR mostly refines the model selector popover design by formatting
the models names' and adjusting spacing/alignment in the list-related
items. The list component changes could've been made in a separate PR
but it was also very practical to do it here as I was already
in-context. Either way, I'm happy to separate if that's better!
One thing I couldn't necessarily figure out, though, is why the order
changed (e.g., Anthropic at last ). I wonder if that was because of the
separator logic somehow? I'd love guidance here—new to Rust!

This pull request introduces a new `markdown` crate which is capable of
parsing and rendering a Markdown source. One of the key additions is
that it enables text selection within a `Markdown` view. Eventually,
this will replace `RichText` but for now the goal is to use it in the
assistant revamped assistant in the spirit of making progress.

Note that this pull request doesn't yet use the new markdown renderer in
`assistant2`. This is because we need to modify the assistant before
slotting in the new renderer and I wanted to merge this independently of
those changes.

This PR makes the `border` methods require an explicit width instead of
defaulting to 1px.
This breaks convention with Tailwind, but it makes GPUI more consistent
with itself. We already have an edge case where the parameterized method
had to be named `border_width`, since `border` was taken up by an alias
for the 1px variant.
### Before
```rs
div()
.border()
.border_t()
.border_r()
.border_b()
.border_l()
.border_width(px(7.))
```
### After
```rs
div()
.border_1()
.border_t_1()
.border_r_1()
.border_b_1()
.border_l_1()
.border(px(7.))
This PR makes clicking the label inside of a `ListHeader` with a
disclosure also toggle the disclosure.
Release Notes:
- Added support for clicking the "Online", "Offline", and "Requests"
headers in the contact list to toggle their expansion.
This PR renames the `h_stack` and `v_stack` to `h_flex` and `v_flex`,
respectively.
We were previously using `h_stack` and `v_stack` to match SwiftUI, but
`h_flex` and `v_flex` fit better with the web/flexbox terminology that
the rest of GPUI uses.
Additionally, we were already calling the utility functions used to
implement `h_stack` and `v_stack` by the new names.
This PR renames the `IconElement` component to just `Icon`.
This better matches the rest of our components, as `IconElement` was the
only one using this naming convention.
The `Icon` enum has been renamed to `IconName` to free up the name.
I was trying to come up with a way that would allow rendering an
`Icon::Zed` directly (and thus make the `IconElement` a hidden part of
the API), but I couldn't come up with a way to do this cleanly.
