we were join(",") and split(",") to serialize the patterns.
This doesn't work when pattern includes a ","
example: *.{ts,tsx} (very common pattern used by agent)
help needed:
how will this work on version mismatch?
Release Notes:
- Fixed search filter patterns on remote projects.
This PR renames the `regex_search` tool to `grep` because I think it
conveys more meaning to the model, the idea of searching the filesystem
with a regular expression. It's also one word and the model seems to be
using it effectively after some additional prompt tuning.
It also takes an include pattern to filter on the specific files we try
to search. I'd like to encourage the model to scope its searches more
aggressively, as in my testing, I'm only seeing it filter on file
extension.

This Pull Request updates the default behavior of the substitute (`s`)
command in vim mode to only replace the next match by default, instead
of all, and replace all matches only when the `g` flag is provided,
making it more similar to NeoVim's behavior.
In order to achieve this, the following changes were introduced:
- Update `BufferSearchBar::replace_next` to be a public method, so it
can be called from `Vim::replace_command` .
- Update the `Replacement::parse` to set the `should_replace_all` field
to `false` by default, and only set it to `true` if the `'g'` flag is
present in the query.
- Add support for when the `Replacement.should_replace_all` is set to
`false` in `Vim::replace_command`, so as to have it only replace the
next occurrence instead of all occurrences in the line.
- Introduce `BufferSearchBar::select_first_match` so as to activate the
first match on the line under the cursor.
Closes#24450
Release Notes:
- Improved vim's substitute command so as to only replace the first
match by default, and replace all matches if the `'g'` flag is provided

There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs
### issues post merge
- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures
- [x] Mac build issue

We'll bail on searches of files that we know are binary (thus even if we
were to find a match in them, they'd be thrown away by buffer loader).
Release Notes:
- Improved project search performance in worktrees with binary files
when search somethings like `clone(`, with search options `match case
sensitively` and `match whole words` in zed code base, only `clone(cx)`
hit match, `clone()` will not hit math.

history navigate, but the code is more duplicate, I will dive into find
better method to decrease the duplicate code.

Ensures we sort paths in search the same as we do in panels.
Ideally we'd store things like this in the worktree, but the sort order
depends
on file vs directory, and callers generally don't know which they're
asking for.

This is a prototype change to improve latency of local project searches.
It refactors the matcher to keep paths "in-order" so that we don't need
to wait for all matching files to display the first result.
On a test (searching for `<` in zed.dev) it changes the time until first
result from about 2s to about 50ms. The tail latency seems to increase
slightly (from 5s to 7s) so we may want to do more tuning before hitting
merge.

Previously we were using a single globset::Glob in PathMatcher; higher
up the stack, we were then resorting to using a list of PathMatchers.
globset crate exposes a GlobSet type that's better suited for this use
case. In my benchmarks, using a single PathMatcher with GlobSet instead
of a Vec of PathMatchers with Globs is about 3 times faster with the
default 'file_scan_exclusions' values. This slightly improves our
project load time for projects with large # of files, as showcased in
the following videos of loading a project with 100k source files. This
project is *not* a git repository, so it should measure raw overhead on
our side.

Release Notes:
- Improved performance in large worktrees
This avoids the problem of a search being kicked off involuntarily and
potentially using a large amount of CPU when toggling on the `Search
Ignored Files` option.
What would happen is that someone would turn the option on, we'd kick
off a search, and go through all of the files in, say, `node_modules`.
Even if no query was given.
This avoids that.
Release Notes:
- Fixed an empty search being kicked off involuntarily if no query was
typed in yet but an option was toggled.
Targeting Preview of 09.27.
This is still pending several touchups/clearups:
- We should watch multibuffer for changes and rescan the excerpts. This
should also update match count.
- Closing editor while multibuffer with 100's of changed files is open
leads to us prompting for save once per each file in the multibuffer.
One could in theory save in multibuffer before closing it (thus avoiding
unnecessary prompts), but it'd be cool to be able to "Save all"/"Discard
All".
Release Notes:
- Added "Replace in project" functionality
This is still WIP, mostly pending styling. I added a pretty rudimentary
text field and no buttons whatsoever other than that. I am targeting a
Preview of 09.13, as I am gonna be on PTO for the next week.
I dislike the current implementation slightly because of `regex`'s crate
syntax and lack of support of backreferences. What strikes me as odd wrt
to syntax is that it will just replace a capture name with empty string
if that capture is missing from the regex. While this is perfectly fine
behaviour for conditionally-matched capture groups (e.g. `(foo)?`), I
think it should still error out if there's no group with a given name
(conditional or not).
Release Notes:
- Added "Replace" functionality to buffer search.
Use word_characters to feed completion trigger characters as well and
also recognize kebab as a potential sub-word splitter. This is fine for
non-kebab-case languages because we'd only ever attempt to split a word
with a kebab in it in language scopes which are kebab-cased

This PR adds new config option to language config called
`word_boundaries` that controls which characters should be recognised as
word boundary for a given language. This will improve our UX for
languages such as PHP and Tailwind.
