Piotr Osiewicz 37239fd66b Use serde 1.0.221 instead of serde_derive hackery (#38137)
serde 1.0.221 introduced serde_core into the build graph, which should
render explicitly depending on serde_derive for faster build times an
obsolote method.

Besides, I'm not even sure if that worked for us. My hunch is that at
least one of our deps would have `serde` with derive feature enabled..
and then, most of the crates using `serde_derive` explicitly were also
depending on gpui, which depended on `serde`.. thus, we wouldn't have
gained anything from explicit dep on `serde_derive`

Adam Mulvany 0e575b2809 helix: Fix buffer search: deploy reset to normal mode (#36917)
## Fix: Preserve Helix mode when using search

### Problem
When using `buffer search: deploy` in Helix mode, pressing Enter to
dismiss the search incorrectly returned to Vim NORMAL mode instead of
Helix NORMAL mode.

### Root Cause
The `search_deploy` function was resetting the entire `SearchState` to
default values when buffer search: deploy was activated. Since the
default `Mode` is `Normal`, this caused `prior_mode` to be set to Vim's
Normal mode regardless of the actual mode before search.

### Solution
Modified `search_deploy` to preserve the current mode when resetting
search state:
- Store the current mode before resetting
- Reset search state to default
- Restore the saved mode to `prior_mode`

This ensures the editor returns to the correct mode (Helix NORMAL or Vim
NORMAL) after dismissing buffer search.

### Settings

I was able to reproduce and then test the fix was successful with the
following config and have also tested with vim: default_mode commented
out to ensure that's not influencing the mode selection flow:

```
  "helix_mode": true,
  "vim_mode": true,
  "vim": {
    "default_mode": "helix_normal"
  },
```

This is on Kubuntu 24.04.

The following test combinations pass locally:

- `cargo test -p search`
- `cargo test -p vim`
- `cargo test -p editor`
- `cargo test -p workspace`
- `cargo test -p gpui -- vim`
- `cargo test -p gpui -- helix`

- Fixed Helix mode switching to Vim normal mode after using `buffer
search: deploy` to search

Ben Kunkle 6cd4dbdea1 gpui: Store action documentation (#33809)

Michael Sloan 24c94d474e gpui: Simplify Action macros + support doc comments in actions! (#33263)
Instead of a menagerie of macros for implementing `Action`, now there
are just two:

* `actions!(editor, [MoveLeft, MoveRight])`
* `#[derive(..., Action)]` with `#[action(namespace = editor)]`

In both contexts, `///` doc comments can be provided and will be used in
`JsonSchema`.

In both contexts, parameters can provided in `#[action(...)]`:

- `namespace = some_namespace` sets the namespace. In Zed this is
required.

- `name = "ActionName"` overrides the action's name. This must not
contain "::".

- `no_json` causes the `build` method to always error and
`action_json_schema` to return `None`
and allows actions not implement `serde::Serialize` and
`schemars::JsonSchema`.

- `no_register` skips registering the action. This is useful for
implementing the `Action` trait
while not supporting invocation by name or JSON deserialization.

- `deprecated_aliases = ["editor::SomeAction"]` specifies deprecated old
names for the action.
These action names should *not* correspond to any actions that are
registered. These old names
can then still be used to refer to invoke this action. In Zed, the
keymap JSON schema will
accept these old names and provide warnings.

- `deprecated = "Message about why this action is deprecation"`
specifies a deprecation message.
In Zed, the keymap JSON schema will cause this to be displayed as a
warning. This is a new feature.

Also makes the following changes since this seems like a good time to
make breaking changes:

* In `zed.rs` tests adds a test with an explicit list of namespaces. The
rationale for this is that there is otherwise no checking of `namespace
= ...` attributes.

* `Action::debug_name` renamed to `name_for_type`, since its only
difference with `name` was that it

* `Action::name` now returns `&'static str` instead of `&str` to match
the return of `name_for_type`. This makes the action trait more limited,
but the code was already assuming that `name_for_type` is the same as
`name`, and it requires `&'static`. So really this just makes the trait
harder to misuse.

* Various action reflection methods now use `&'static str` instead of
`SharedString`.

Peter Finn 08ce230bae vim: Add some forced motion support (#27991)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/20971

Added `v` input to yank and delete to override default motion. The
global vim state tracking if the forced motion flag was passed handled
the same way that the count is. [The main chunk of code maps the motion
kind from the default to the overridden
kind](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/27991/files#diff-2dca6b7d1673c912d14e4edc74e415abbe3a4e6d6b37e0e2006d30828bf4bb9cR1249-R1254).
To handle the case of deleting a single character (dv0) at the start of
a row I had to modify the control flow

Then to handle an exclusive delete till the end of the row (dv$) I
[saturated the endpoint with a left

Dino ed7c55a04e vim: Reset search range after substitute (#28403)
Update the `Vim::replace_command` method so as to reset the range in the
`BufferSearchBar` after running the replacement in order to fix the
issue where the number of matches in the search bar would be incorrect
after the replacement was done, as it would only take into consideration
the range in which the replacement happened, instead of the whole
buffer.

`BufferSearchBar::clear_search_within_ranges` method is introduced in
these changes.

DinoandConrad Irwin af5318df98 Update default vim substitute command behavior and add support for 'g' flag (#28138)
This Pull Request updates the default behavior of the substitute (`s`)
command in vim mode to only replace the next match by default, instead
of all, and replace all matches only when the `g` flag is provided,
making it more similar to NeoVim's behavior.

In order to achieve this, the following changes were introduced:

- Update `BufferSearchBar::replace_next` to be a public method, so it
can be called from `Vim::replace_command` .
- Update the `Replacement::parse` to set the `should_replace_all` field
to `false` by default, and only set it to `true` if the `'g'` flag is
present in the query.
- Add support for when the `Replacement.should_replace_all` is set to
`false` in `Vim::replace_command`, so as to have it only replace the
next occurrence instead of all occurrences in the line.
- Introduce `BufferSearchBar::select_first_match` so as to activate the
first match on the line under the cursor.

Closes #24450

Release Notes:

- Improved vim's substitute command so as to only replace the first
match by default, and replace all matches if the `'g'` flag is provided

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running

- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments

- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`

- This pr does **not** add keybinds for making all panes in an axis

Thorsten Ball 36b9e40085 vim: Reset search options whenever / is used (#19058)
This is a bit of a personal thing, but it's been bugging me for a while
now that the search options are sticky whenever I use `/` in Vim mode.

This change makes it so that the options are reset with each new `/`.

That means you can, for example, use `v` to create a visual selection,
then hit `*` to search for that (which activates a bunch of search
options), but then continue with `/` to get a normal search.

Release Notes:

- Changed `/` in Vim mode to always reset the search options in the
search bar back to regex-only. That means using `*` (in normal or visual
mode) still works with its options, but the next `/` will reset the
search options. That makes it much closer to how `/` behaves in Vim.

Instead of wrapping the search term with `\<...\>`, enable the
`WHOLE_WORD` search option.

The advantage of the search option is that it can be toggled with one
click/key press (alt+w by default), and it doesn't require regex mode.

Release Notes:

- Vim mode's whole word search now uses the search bar's "Match whole
words" option, instead of wrapping the search term with `\<...\>`. This
allows easier toggling of whole-word search, and it also works without
enabling the regex mode.

This makes the hard-coded regex and case-sensitive search flags in
`vim::MoveToNext` and `vim::MoveToPrev` commands configurable in key
bindings.

Example:

```json
{
  "context": "VimControl && !menu",
  "bindings": {
    "*": ["vim::MoveToNext", { "regex": false, "caseSensitive": false }],
    "#": ["vim::MoveToPrev", { "regex": false, "caseSensitive": false }]
  }
}
```

Closes #15837.

Release Notes:

- Added `regex` and `caseSensitive` arguments to `vim::MoveToNext` and
`vim ::MoveToPrev` commands, for toggling regex and case sensitive
search.

fletcher gornickandConrad Irwin cfc3b7de05 vim: Retain search direction upon search submit (#16754)
Before, when using `?` and `#` for backwards search it would initially
search for the previous match, but upon subsequent inputs to `n` and
`N`, `n` is always treated as "forward" and `N` is always treated as
"backward", instead of continuing the search direction.

now, if i use `?` or `#` for backward search, `n` will go to the
previous selection, and `N` will go to the next. Functionality stays the
same for `/` and `*`.

Release Notes:

- vim: Fixed `n` direction after searching backwards

Conrad Irwin 36d51fe4a5 vim: Improve lifecycle (#16477)
Closes #13579

A major painpoint in the Vim crate has been life-cycle management. We
used to have one global Vim instance that tried to track per-editor
state; this led to a number of subtle issues (e.g. #13579, the mode
indicator being global, and quick toggling between windows letting vim
mode's notion of the active editor get out of sync).

This PR changes the internal structure of the code so that there is now
one `Vim` instance per `Editor` (stored as an `Addon`); and the global
stuff is separated out. This fixes the above problems, and tidies up a
bunch of the mess in the codebase.
