Conrad Irwin 2ea4ede08e macOS: Improve deadkeys (#20515)
Closes #19738

This change refactors how we handle input on macOS to avoid simulating
our own IME. This fixes a number of small edge-cases, and also lets us
remove a bunch of code that had been added to work around bugs in the
previous version.

Release Notes:

- On macOS: Keyboard shortcuts are now handled before activating the IME
system, this enables using vim's default mode on keyboards that use IME
menus (like Japanese).
- On macOS: Improvements to handling of dead-keys. For example when
typing `""` on a Brazillian keyboard, you now get a committed " and a
new marked ", as happens in other apps. Also, you can now type cmd-^ on
an AZERTY keyboard for indent; and ^ on a QWERTZ keyboard now goes to
the beginning of line in vim normal mode, or `d i "` no requires no
space to delete within quotes on Brazilian keyboards (though `d f "
space` is still required as `f` relies on the input handler, not a
binding).
- On macOS: In the terminal pane, holding down a key will now repeat
that key (as happens in iTerm2) instead of opening the character
selector.

Conrad IrwinandWill ff4f67993b macOS: Add key equivalents for non-Latin layouts (#20401)
Closes #16343
Closes #10972

Release Notes:

- (breaking change) On macOS when using a keyboard that supports an
extended Latin character set (e.g. French, German, ...) keyboard
shortcuts are automatically updated so that they can be typed without
`option`. This fixes several long-standing problems where some keyboards
could not type some shortcuts.
- This mapping works the same way as
[macOS](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/swiftui/view/keyboardshortcut(_:modifiers:localization:)).
For example on a German keyboard shortcuts like `cmd->` become `cmd-:`,
`cmd-[` and `cmd-]` become `cmd-ö` and `cmd-ä`. This mapping happens at
the time keyboard layout files are read so the keybindings are visible
in the command palette. To opt out of this behavior for your custom
keyboard shortcuts, set `"use_layout_keys": true` in your binding
section. For the mappings used for each layout [see
here](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/a890df1863ca939ee7f0ada6e629b6f83eb18bc5/crates/settings/src/key_equivalents.rs#L7).

Kirill Bulatov 1c84fd1fef Use Zed handler for undo and redo macOS actions (#20293)
Those seem to require a corresponding NSTextView/NSTextField with
explicitly enabled `allowsUndo` property. But Zed does not use any of
these *Text* elements, so there's nothing to allow undo on. Hence, use
the Zed handler, making both actions always enabled instead of being
always disabled.

Conrad Irwin cfcbfc1d82 Fix saving files as *.sql on macOS Sequoia (#20195)
Closes #16969

Release Notes:

- Fixed a bug in macOS Sequoia where you can't save a new file as
`*.sql`, it would rename to `.sql.s`. As a side effect you can no longer
save a new file as `*sql.s`. We hope to remove this workaround when the
operating system fixes its bug; in the meantime you can either set
`"use_system_path_prompts": false` in your settings file to skip the
macOS dialogues, or create new files by right clicking in the project
panel.

Piotr Osiewicz 4fa75a78b9 gpui: Improve performance of laying out long lines (#19215)
TL;DR: Another O(n^2) strikes.

In #19194 we received a report about a 7Mb JSON file that Zed struggles
with. Naturally this file showcased a O(n^2) in line layout; this file
has one long line.

During line layout for Mac we have to convert between UTF-16 and UTF-8
indices in the string, as CoreText works with UTF-16 and Rust strings
are UTF-8. The problem stemmed from the fact that we were re-seeking our
string converter on each glyph, which boils down to: we were reparsing
[0..curr_string_position] bytes up to full length of the string, which
is the O(n^2) in question. This PR changes this behaviour to reuse the
Index Converter if the position we're seeking to is not yet reached.
Basically, we're treating the converter as forward iterator and we try
to seek with the same iterator, if possible.

Where previously you could not even open the file in OP (within
reasonable time frame, I waited for 40 seconds before giving up), now
you can do it in.. slightly over a second. The best part is: the
experience is still not ideal. Typing in the buffer is sluggish. Still,
this is a start.

Thorsten BallandAntonio 9c54bd1bd4 macOS: Drop input handler to avoid editor/project not being dropped (#18898)
This fixes the problem of a `Project` sometimes not being dropped when
closing the single, last window of Zed.

Turns out, it wasn't get dropped for the following reason:

1. `editor::Editor` held a reference to project
2. The macOS `input_handler` on the `Window` held a reference to that
`Editor`
3. The AppKit window (and its input handler) get dropped asynchronously
(in the code in this diff), after the window is closed.
4. After the window is closed and no `cx.update()` calls are made
anymore, `flush_effects` is not called anymore.
5. But `flush_effects` is where we dropped entities that don't have any
more references.

In short: we dropped `Editor`, which held a reference to `Project`, out
of band, `flush_effects` wasn't called anymore, and thus the `Project`
wasn't dropped.

张小白 69e76a3bb9 Refactor all_font_names (#15345)
In the current code implementation, it seems that the only difference
between `all_font_names` and `all_font_families` is whether dynamically
loaded font resources are included. Specifically, `all_font_families`
returns the names of all system fonts, while `all_font_names` includes
both the system font names and the dynamically loaded font names. In
other words, `all_font_families` is a strict subset of `all_font_names`.
This is what I observed in my tests on macOS.

Short version: on Intel MacBooks it's better to prefer integrated
(`is_low_poer()`) GPUs, except when a user has an eGPU plugged-in, in
which case they very likely want to prefer that.

Before this change, we'd always prefer the integrated GPU, even if an
eGPU was available.

Now, with this change, if a user has

- eGPU
- integrated GPU
- discrete GPU

We'd first prefer eGPU, then integrated, then discrete.

Release Notes:

- Changed preference for GPUs on macOS so that eGPUs are now preferred
over integrated ones (and both of which are preferred over discrete
GPUs) on Intel Macs.

apricotbucket28 013c9f0420 linux: Implement local time zone support (#14610)
I decided to remove the GPUI APIs since `chrono` already provides this
functionality, and is already been used for this purpose in other parts

[here](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/80402a684066628793695d9303979ad993803740/crates/zed/src/main.rs#L756)

These usages end up calling the `time_format` crate, which takes in a
`UtcOffset`. It's probably cleaner to rewrite the crate to take in
`chrono` types, but that would require rewriting most of the code there.

ee623f77c1 linux/x11: Restore differentiation of mouse/keyboard focus (#13995)
This restores https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/13943 which was
reverted in #13974 because it was possible to get in a state where focus
could not be restored on a window.

In this PR there's an additional change: `FocusIn` and `FocusOut` events
are always handled, even if the `event.mode` is not "NORMAL". In my
testing, `alt-tabbing` between windows didn't produce `FocusIn` and
`FocusOut` events when we had that check. Now, with the check removed,
it's possible to switch focus between two windows again with `alt-tab`.

---

The case is I have made a Popover by use child window, the coordinate of
the window is always can't placement a right position.

So, I make this example to test the `cx.bounds` and set bounds to
window.

---

By this test, is the `cx.bounds` have a bug?

For example the **Top Left** window, we give it origin (150,150), but it
`cx.bounds()` returns (150,262)

> On the window label, middle line is the `bounds` that we set to the
window, last line is `cx.bounds()` result.

---

Or is there something I missed. Is it correct to use `cx.bounds` method
to get the bounds of the current window?

At the same time, I also found that when there are multiple screens, the
information obtained by cx.bounds is very different on different
screens, and it seems that the origin is not relative to the screen.

EmilyandDenis Lukianenko c1e18059f8 gpui: Prefer integrated GPUs on Intel Mac (#13685)
On Intel, Metal will pick a discrete GPU by default when available,
resulting in higher power consumption and heat output. Prefer
non‐removable low‐power devices to correct this.

On Apple Silicon, there is only ever one GPU, so there is no functional
change.

I didn’t do intensive benchmarking of this or anything, but Zed still
seems responsive and it stops my MacBook Pro acting as a combination
space heater–jet engine.

Thanks to @denlukia for showing that this is easy to fix; I’ve marked
you as a co‐author, I hope that’s okay.

Closes: #5124
