Michael Sloan 25cc05b45c Use Vec instead of SmallVec for glyphs field of ShapedRun (#30664)
This glyphs field is usually larger than 8 elements, and SmallVec is not
efficient when it cannot store the value inline.

This change also adds precise glyphs run preallocation in some places
`ShapedRun` is constructed.

Michael Sloan 71ea7aee3b Misc optimization/cleanup of use of Cosmic Text on Linux (#30658)
* Use cosmic_text `metadata` attr to write down the `FontId` from the
input run to avoid searching the list of fonts when laying out every
glyph.

* Instead of checking on every glyph if `postscript_name` is an emoji
font, just store `is_known_emoji_font`.

* Clarify why `font_id_for_cosmic_id` is used, and when its use is
valid.

Michael Sloan 986d271ea7 Fix panic in linux text rendering + refactor to avoid similar errors (#30601)
See #27808. `font_id_for_cosmic_id` was another path updated
`loaded_fonts_store` but did not push to `features_store`. Solution is
just to have one `Vec` with fields rather than relying on the indices
matching up

william341 634b275931 gpui: Fix cosmic-text raster_bounds calculation (#30552)
Closes #30526.

This PR makes the CacheKey used by raster_bounds and rasterize_glyph the
same, as they had not used the same sub pixel shift previously. Fixing
this resolves both the alignment and text-rendering issues introduced in
`ddf8d07`.

Removes dependency on
[quininer/x11-clipboard](https://github.com/quininer/x11-clipboard) as
it is in [maintenance
mode](https://github.com/quininer/x11-clipboard/issues/19).

X11 clipboard functionality is now built-in to GPUI which was
accomplished by stripping the non-x11-related code/abstractions from
[1Password/arboard](https://github.com/1Password/arboard) and extending
it to support all image formats already supported by GPUI on wayland and
macos.

A benefit of switching over to the `arboard` implementation, is that we
now make an attempt to have an X11 "clipboard manager" (if available -
something the user has to setup themselves) save the contents of
clipboard (if the last copy operation was within Zed) so that the copied
contents can still be pasted once Zed has completely stopped.

张小白 f0ef3110d3 gpui: Introduce PlatformKeyboardLayout trait for human-friendly keyboard layout names (#29049)
This PR adds a new `PlatformKeyboardLayout` trait with two methods:
`id(&self) -> &str` and `name(&self) -> &str`. The `id()` method returns
a unique identifier for the keyboard layout, while `name()` provides a
human-readable name. This distinction is especially important on
Windows, where the `id` and `name` can be quite different. For example,
the French layout has an `id` of `0000040C`, which is not
human-readable, whereas the `name` would simply be `French`. Currently,
the existing `keyboard_layout()` method returns what's essentially the
same as `id()` in this new design.

This PR implements the `name()` method for both Windows and macOS. On
Linux, for now, `name()` still returns the same value as `id()`.

Oleksiy Syvokon 4405ed04d0 linux: Fix cursor-related panic on Wayland (#29060)
This fixes the panic that happened in debug builds in Wayland when
focusing/defocusing window in the edit mode:

While working on implementing `add_recent_documents` for Windows, I
found that the process is significantly more complex compared to macOS.
On macOS, simply registering the `add_recent_documents` function is
enough, as the system handles everything automatically.

On Windows, however, there are two cases to consider:  
- **Files opened by the app**: These appear in the "Recent" section (as
shown in the screenshot, "test.txt") and are managed automatically by
Windows (by setting windows registry), similar to macOS.

- **Folders opened by the app**: This is more complicated because
Windows does not handle it automatically, requiring the application to
track opened folders manually.

To address this, this PR introduces a `History Manager` along with
`HistoryManagerEvent::Update` and `HistoryManagerEvent::Delete` events
to simplify the process of managing recently opened folders.

c2afc2271b Use scap library to implement screensharing on X11 (#27807)
While `scap` does have support for Wayland and Windows, but haven't seen
screensharing work properly there yet. So for now just adding support
for X11 screensharing.

77856bf017 Hide the mouse when the user is typing in the editor - take 2 (#27519)
Closes #4461

Take 2 on https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/25040. 

Fixes panic caused due to using `setHiddenUntilMouseMoves` return type
to `set` cursor on macOS.

Release Notes:

- Now cursor hides when the user is typing in editor. It will stay
hidden until it is moved again. This behavior is `true` by default, and
can be configured with `hide_mouse_while_typing` in settings.

Alvaro Parker ddf8d07f02 Update cosmic text to 0.13.2 (#27362)
Related #14222

Release Notes:

- This PR updates `cosmic-text` dependency on `gpui` crate from `0.11.2`
to 0.13.2`. This decreases RAM usage zed depending on the amount of
monospace fonts installed on the system. On Arch Linux with `nerd-fonts`
package installed (which provides around 2000 monospaced fonts), it
decreases ram usage from ~800mb to around ~300mb.

- Updated `cosmic-text` to `0.13.2` on `gpui` crate

a8610fbd13 Hide the mouse when the user is typing in the editor (#25040)

This PR improves the coding experience by hiding the mouse while the
user is typing so it does not accidentally get in their way, making it
challenging to ready characters in the editor.

Release Notes:

- The following PR hides the cursor when the user is typing by adding a
new cursor style called `None`.
- Assuming the user does not move the mouse, it will stay hidden until
it is moved again.

Cole MillerandMax 9ef0501853 file_finder: Remove common segments of long paths in search results (#25049)
This PR makes progress on #7711 by identifying any common prefix of the
paths in the file finder's search results, and replacing the "interior"
of that prefix---every path segment but the first and last---with `...`,
when a heuristic indicates that the longest path would otherwise
overflow the modal.

The elision is not applied to any segment that contains a match for the
search query.

There may be more work to do on #7711 in the case of long result paths
that do not share a significant common prefix.

smit 5c5caf1ffe linux: Fix reload hangs for several minutes (#24882)
Closes #22666

This PR fixes the long wait time to open Zed (2 mins in my case) after
reloading on Linux.

This bug fix is funny:

1. We were using TCP for Zed instances to talk to each other. Reload was
broken here too due to TCP connections not being killed on time.
2. [#11488](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/11488) PR fixed
the TCP connection issue by adding a wait until it gets killed. I
suppose at that time, this wait time was small.
3. Later, we changed how Zed talks to each other in
[#11585](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/11585) by using
Datagram and removing TCP. The new approach simply uses a `.sock` file
and a file descriptor to check if some program is listening to it.
4. TCP check is now unnecessary, and it still wait for a long time (I
suppose, TIME_WAIT time, don't quote me on this), even though we don’t
use TCP anymore for this.

This PR just removes that unnecessary TCP wait.

smit 6534e0bafd linux: Fix crash when NoKeymap event is received on Wayland (#24379)
Closes #24139

For weird reasons, Sway on few linux distoros sends `NoKeymap` event when
switching windows. Zed crashes due to assertion on this event to be `XkbV1`.

To fix this, we ignore `NoKeymap` event instead crashing Zed.

Mike Qin 9c3482083b Map window after set_app_id() under X11 (#23046)
GPUI applications can set the window class by the `app_id` window
option. However, GPUI will map the window first and then change the
window class after the window is displayed. This doesn't work on some
X11 window managers. FVWM, for example, does not track window class
after a window is mapped. Because in practice, a window shouldn't change
its application group on the fly.

This PR fixed this by adding a `map_window()` function `PlatformWindow`.
On X11, it will `set_app_id()` first and then map the window.

6fca1d2b0b Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

tims d2d1779e0d linux: Add keyboard_layout and on_keyboard_layout_change support (#22736)
No issue, as the functionality is currently not being used in Zed. This
is more of a GPUI improvement.

Currently, `keyboard_layout` and `on_keyboard_layout_change` are already
handled on macOS. This PR implements the same for X11 and Wayland.

Linux supports up to 4 keyboard layout groups (e.g., Group 0: English
US, Group 1: Bulgarian, etc). On X11 and Wayland, `event` provides a new
active group, which maps to the `layout_index`. We already store keymap
state from where we can get the current `layout_index`. By comparing
them, we determine if the layout has changed.

tims b46b261f11 linux: Fix process PID to window mapping for X11 (#22348)
Closes #22326

This PR adds process PID information to window created by X11, so that
window manager can identify which process this window belongs to.
Without this property, the window manager would have no reliable way to
know which process created this window.

In original issue, `robotgo` throws error on `x, y, w, h :=
robotgo.GetBounds(pid)` this method. If we go deeper into the source
code of `robotgo`, it calls `GetXidFromPid` which goes through all
windows, and tries to check for provided pid. Hence, when it tries to do
that for Zed, it fails and returns `0, err` to caller.

On Linux, when creating a new window, bounds are either pulled from
existing workspace data (serialized in an SQLite DB) or fall back to
some default constants if no data exists.

These bounds include the full dimensions of the window (width and
height), which already account for insets. However, properties like
`inset` (Wayland) or `last_insets` (X11) exist only at the platform
level and are not part of the window bounds themselves.

During rendering, we call `set_client_inset`, which updates the inset
values and also adjusts the window bounds, increasing their dimensions.
In Zed's case, the inset is 10px, which adds 20px to both the width and
height (10px from each side).

Problem:

When quitting, the full window bounds (which already account for inset)
are saved to the DB. On reopening, these saved bounds are used to create
the window. `set_client_inset` runs again and inflates the dimensions
even more.

Solution:

Store window bounds *without* the inset-inflated dimensions. On the next
session, `set_client_inset` will take care of applying the inset,
resulting window dimensions matching the previous session. This fix is
in the PR.

Alternative Solution:

Another option is to save the inset explicitly in the DB and apply it
during window creation. But this means storing more data, and the inset
would need to be platform-agnostic, which adds complexity. Doesn’t seem
worth it for no real gain.

On Wayland, saving occurs only when you actually resize the window (on
X11, saving happens both on init and while dragging the window). To
trigger saving, I manually resized the window by ~1px to make it print.

tims e4493d60dc linux: Fix wrong cursor theme for arrow cursor style (#22276)
Closes #22264

On Linux, the arrow cursor style currently used by Zed is `arrow`.
However, this style might not be available in most themes, causing the
cursor to fall back to system default theme. Note cursor style are
platform (X11 and Wayland) agnostic.

Most themes use `left_ptr` as their arrow cursor style instead of
`arrow`. In some cases, `left_ptr` and `arrow` are symlinks pointing to
the `default` style, but the `default` style is not guaranteed to be
available across all themes.

After inspecting the available cursor themes on popular desktop
environments, changing the default from `arrow` to `left_ptr` seems to
be available in all of them. `left_ptr` as default cursor style is also
mentioned in [Arch Wiki: Cursor
themes](https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Cursor_themes#Change_X_shaped_default_cursor).

298b9df589 Switch to a single GPU context in Blade (#20853)

### High Level

Blade got a proper support for Surface objects in
https://github.com/kvark/blade/pull/203.
That was mainly motivated by Zed needing to draw multiple windows. With
the Surface API, Zed is now able to have the GPU context tied to the
"Platform" instead of "Window". Practically speaking, this means:
  - architecture more sound
  - faster to open/close windows
  - less surprises, more robust

### Concerns

1. Zed has been using a temporary workaround for the platform bug on
some Intel+Nvidia machines that makes us unable to present -
https://github.com/kvark/blade/pull/144 . This workaround is no longer
available with the new architecture. I'm looking for ideas on how to
approach this better.
- we are now picking up the change in
https://github.com/kvark/blade/pull/210, which allows forcing a specific
Device ID. This should allow Zed users to work around the issue. We
could help them to automate it, too.
2. ~~Metal-rs dependency is switched to
https://github.com/kvark/metal-rs/tree/blade, since upstream isn't
responsive in merging changes that are required for Blade. Hopefully,
temporary.~~
- ~~we can also hack around it by just transmuting the texture
references, since we know those are unchanged in the branch. That would
allow Blade to use it's own version of Metal, temporarily, if switching

tims d609931e1c linux: Fix mouse cursor size and blur on Wayland (#21373)
Closes #15788, #13258

This is a long-standing issue with a few previous attempts to fix it,
such as [this one](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/17496).
However, that fix was later reverted because it resolved the blur issue
but caused a size issue. Currently, both blur and size issues persist
when you set a custom cursor size from GNOME Settings and use fractional
scaling.

This PR addresses both issues.

---

### Context

A new Wayland protocol,
[cursor-shape-v1](https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/194),
allows the compositor to handle rendering the cursor at the correct size
and shape. This protocol is implemented by KDE, wlroots (Sway-like
environments), etc. Zed supports this protocol, so there are no issues
on these desktop environments.

However, GNOME has not yet
[adopted](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/merge_requests/6212) this
protocol. As a result, apps must fall back to manually rendering the
cursor by specifying the theme, size, scale, etc., themselves. Zed also
implements this fallback but does not correctly account for the display
scale.

---

### Scale Fix

For example, if your cursor size is `64px` and you’re using fractional
scaling (e.g., `150%`), the display scale reported by the window query
will be an integer value, `2` in this case. Why `2` if the scale is
`150%`? That’s what the new protocol aims to improve. However, since
GNOME Wayland uses this integer scale everywhere, it’s sufficient for
our use case.

To fix the issue, we set the `buffer_scale` to this value. But that
alone doesn’t solve the problem. We also need to generate a matching
theme cursor size for this scaled version. This can be calculated as
`64px` * `2`, resulting in `128px` as the theme cursor size.

### Size Fix

The XDG Desktop Portal’s `cursor-size` event fails to read the cursor
size because it expects an `i32` but encounters a type error with `u32`.
Due to this, the cursor size was interpreted as the default `24px`
instead of the actual size set via user.

---

### Tested

This fix has been tested with all possible combinations of the
following:

- [x] GNOME Normal Scale (100%, 200%, etc.)
- [x] GNOME Fractional Scaling (125%, 150%, etc.)
- [x] GNOME Cursor Sizes (**Settings > Accessibility > Seeing**, e.g.,
`24px`, `64px`, etc.)
- [x] GNOME Experimental Feature `scale-monitor-framebuffer` (both
enabled and disabled)
- [x] KDE (`cursor-shape-v1` protocol)

Michael Sloan c9f2c2792c Improve error handling and resource cleanup in linux/x11/window.rs (#21079)
* Fixes registration of event handler for xinput-2 device changes,
revealed by this improvement.

* Pushes `.unwrap()` panic-ing outwards to callers.

* Includes a description of what the X11 call was doing when a failure
was encountered.

* Fixes a variety of places where the X11 reply wasn't being inspected
for failures.

* Destroys windows on failure during setup. New structure makes it
possible for the caller of `open_window` to carry on despite failures,
and so partially initialized window should be removed (though all calls
I looked at also panic currently).

Considered pushing this through `linux/x11/client.rs` too but figured
it'd be nice to minimize merge conflicts with #20853.
